A Peek At What We Have Been Learning

In Language, we have continued working on basic writing skills, focusing on
identifying nouns in simple sentences and using connectives to join sentences.

While studying people in texts to identify attributes of role models, we read

Wangari’s Trees of Peace. This true story of Wangari Maathai, environmentalist
and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, is a shining example of how one woman’s
passion, vision, and determination inspired great change in Kenya.

In Maths, Year 3 have continued working on place value, focussing on adding 10

and 100 to 3-digit numbers and grouping 3 digit numbers into groups of 10. While
Year 4 worked on drawing models using squares, sticks and dots to solve 3-digit
addition equations with carrying. As a whole class, we also looked at writing
questions for surveys and collating data using frequency tables.

This Wednesday, Year 3 and 4 students will be coming home with a list of
interview questions. They will be required to interview an adult at home to find out
information about who their role model was when they were a young child and
who their role model is now as an adult. The information they get from this
interview will help them complete their final activity next week in class for the first
inquiry unit ‘Who We Are’.
Home Learning
• Spelling City: All students have individualised Week 5 spelling lists based on
misspellings shown in class. They will be tested next Monday.

• Raz Readers: All students have Raz Kids passwords in their small books. They
should complete 2 set assignments (read and answer questions).
• When not using Raz Kids, 20minutes of reading for enjoyment each day is
recommended. This should be a book of the child’s choice.

• Maths: StudyLadder (Teacher Set Tasks)

• Who We Are (Unit): Students are to conduct an interview with an adult at home.
They will prepare the interview questions this Monday and Tuesday in class. On
Wednesday, they will take their interview questions home. Students must bring
their interview responses back to school by Monday 1st October.
