DJ Smiles Davis got her start in the music industry as a professional dancer having nurtured
her talent as a performer with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, she also worked with
Lauryn Hill as a movement coach and back up dancer for Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot. She
soon discovered her talents on the wheels of steel and began acquiring early fans for her
impeccable music sense. Several years working at legendary Indi record store Amoeba
helped cement DJ Smiles Davis deep knowledge of music. Her transformation from
professional dancer to DJ was a natural artistic progression that started when she was injured.
Her rehabilitation led her to the turntables and there has been no turning back.

Her eclectic mix tape series Many Styles has garnered her a large international fan base. The
many styles mix series seamlessly blends Soul, Electronica, Rock, Hip Hop and anything else
Smiles wants to play in a most unique way that only a true music visionary could. The
feedback from the mix series has been phenomenal from a very diverse cross section of
people from all walks of life. Among these fans are many of the industries elite tastemakers.
Some cool quotes on the mix, Talib Kweli “This is Dope!” Giant Step founder Maurice
Bernstein “ She is Great” DJ Skeet Skeet “Man this mixtape is awesome!” and from Violet
Brown urban music buyer at Trans World “Love love her music, she is really talented!

“DJ Smiles Davis sets the tone of Many Styles Vol. 3 with a plea by a caller to “have
some music now.” Preach! Happily obliges, blurring across pop, soul, rap and funk
with ease, mixing old and new in a way that is uniquely refreshing. While the
brilliant pairing of “Day N Nite” (Kid Cudi) with “Young Folks” (Peter Bjorn and
John) is all well and good, it’s the inclusion of criminally overlooked soul selections
by outfits like Poets of Rhythm, Pure Essence and Cymande that complete this chill
and complex mixtape. “ - Nekoro Gomes, BRM
