The Section 1 Article 14 of the Philippine Constitution states that “The Congress shall give highest priority
to the enactment of measures that protect and enhance the right of all the people to human dignity, reduce
social, economic, and political inequalities, and remove cultural inequities by equitably diffusing wealth
and political power for the common good. To this end, the State shall regulate the acquisition, ownership,
use, and disposition of property and its increments.” The statement reminds me of the EDSA People Power
Revolution around 32 years ago. The time when the Filipino people overthrew a dictator through a bloodless
insurgence that is now commemorated as one of the turning point of the history of our country. And It is
under the Section 1 Article 14 of the 1987 constitution that we obtain again the equal opportunities, social
order, and equitable sharing and access on our country’s resources. Currently, a huge number of countrymen
living below the poverty line. While it is the main responsibility of the government to fulfill the enactment
of enhancing the lives of its people, particularly in reducing social and economic inequalities, I believe that
we, the future business leaders and change agents of our society must make our own contribution in
addressing the needs and concerns of our less fortunate brothers and sisters. It is part of our role as the
intellectually-blessed individuals to become defenders of social justice for those who are oppressed. We
have a collective responsibility to improve the lives of the people around us. And we can do this, by starting
within ourselves by continuously improving who we are, what we know, and how we live we can inspire
others to do the same.

The group who presented through a role-play the Article 14 of the Constitution on Education, Science and
Technology, Arts, Culture and Sports was very educational. I easily understood the concepts and
applications of these laws. I highly commend their unique approach in discussing the laws under the Article
14, my classmates and I learned about the constitution without even realizing it. There is an internet article
I read that mentioned that the prosperity of a nation lies in the success of their educational institutions. I
believe education is one of the foundations of a society. It builds the skills and capabilities of an individual
so he or she can contribute to the progress of the nation he or she is part of. I was fortunate enough to have
been educated by one of the top universities in the country. After finishing my degree in BS Mechanical
Engineering and passing the Mechanical Engineering Licensure Exam, I immediately looked for a job. A
month after I took my oath as a Mechanical Engineer, I started with my first career. Looking back, on my
nearly 6 years in the company, it is clear that I have grown not only personally and professionally.

I believe that studying at DLSU and working for SKF was one of the best decisions I ever made. All of the
people I have encountered shaped me, and changed me, and some have allowed me to shape them in turn.
Looking back, it was obviously impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was a fresh graduate
who have just entered the engineering world working in a service industry. It was the training and education
I received from DLSU that prepared me when I was as young engineer traveling alone to far flung place
where I knew so little yet had a huge responsibility to accomplish.

I hope there will be more institutions like DLSU and more teachers responding to the needs and challenges
of our nation by providing educational services. As what the Br. Andrew FSC College of Education of
DLSU said “Education is the development of the total person who is imbued with Christian values, active
in the pursuit of academic excellence, committed to effecting social changes, and dedicated to the search
for new knowledge.”
