VYACHESLAV PYETSUKH:
HYPOTHESES OF A REALIST

Vyacheslav Alexeyevich Pyetsukh is a writer whose books reflect on Russia’s destiny and the Russian way of being. It should be
noted that his position as an observer and describer of Russian life is beyond any reproach. Vyacheslav Pyetsukh has cleverly
escaped from any possible critical nit-picking. It would be impossible to accuse Pyetsukh, as a historian and man of letters, of not
knowing the psychology of the intelligentsia. Nor could anyone suspect a person who lives the greater part of the year in the Tver
Region countryside and is accustomed to peasant labor, of not knowing the rural way of life, or of being remote from the people.
One might even see Pyetsukh as a kind of man of the future, who has learned to combine intellectual and physical work: from 6:00
a.m. till noon he is at his writing desk, after which he does farm work until evening. It is like in Mayakovsky’s poem: “…He’ll till
