Overall Lesson Aim:
Students will construct a 3D cube using a 2D net.

Learning Objectives:
Students will draw a net for a cube and then construct it. They must use mathematical terminology to demonstrate the
knowledge they already posses about 3D shapes. They will continue to develop a range of technical language relating to
3D shape and create meaning between 2D and 3D shapes.

12:10- Students will begin by reviewing their 2D cube net (from previous lesson) and Resources:
12:20 make any adjustments they think are necessary to be able to construct their  Pens

12:20- They will then draw their draft into their books to refer back to in future markers
12:35 lessons. They will then note the shapes name (cube) and an explanation of  Starboard
what they will do in order to construct their cube.  Coloured paper

12:35- Students will then use their rulers to draw their good copy net onto a

12:55 coloured piece of paper. They will need to write their name on the back of the

net before they construct it. Students will need to cut their shape out and
construct it using either glue or tape.  Glue

12:55- To finish the lesson students will complete a self-assessment. This will involve
1:00 them colouring in a series of boxes in either green (understand completely),
yellow (understands a little) or red (does not understand).

Students will demonstrate their understanding of a cube net and determine how the shape will be constructed before
they are able to create their cube.

I will also give students verbal feedback throughout the lesson and ask questions to identify misconceptions and what
the students are confident with in regards to 3D shapes.
Students who complete this task early may draw another cube net, however, they must not just rotate their original
net, the squares need to be rearranged completely in order to create a brand new net.
