Experiment No.

: 05
Name of Experiment: Analysis the AC sweep and Time domain (Transient)
of an ac circuit by using OrCAD.

Objective:
(i) To learn about the ac sweep and transient analysis of an ac circuit by
using OrCAD.
(ii) To observe the output wave shapes of different ac circuits.

Learning Outcome:
Able to know the design procedure of a circuit by using OrCAD. After
completing this experiment every successful student should be able to design
and analysis the circuits by changing the value of different parameters.

Theory:
In the ac sweep we can observe the output of an ac circuit by changing the
frequency both linear and logarithmic type. In the transient analysis mode
simulation, you will be displaying the amplitude of an ac signal as a function of
time.

Equipments:

OrCAD software and Computer

1. AC sweep simulation:

1. Draw the circuit.

2. Select the ac sweep analysis >General setting>Type(Linear/Logarithmic)
3. Entry the start and end frequency.
4. Run the simulation and then analysis the output by changing the value of
different parameters.

Discussion:
AC Sweep is small signal response computed by treating the circuit as linear
about its DC operating point. Like DC, AC Noise and Transfer Function
analyses, AC analysis is a swept mode and can operate in any of the 6 modes
documented in Sweep Modes. AC sweep is a frequency response
analysis. PSpice A/D calculates the small-signal response of the circuit to a
combination of inputs by transforming it around the bias point and treating it as
a linear circuit. A transient problem is one that asks us to find voltage (or
current) vs. time. It also includes some instant event: a switch opens or closes,
the power supply turns on, a part is suddenly pulled out the circuit, a fuse blows.
Transient Analysis of a Circuit i.e The transient analysis is always used when
you want to view a graph of a voltage or current as a function of time. Even if
the voltages are DC as in the previous tutorials, transient analysis must be used
to view a graph of the output versus time in this experiment a few circuit
analysis that involved AC Sweep and transient analysis was performed
successfully.
