Experiment No: 04

Experiment Name: Analysis of bias point and DC sweep of a dc circuit by

using OrCAD.
Objectives :
(i) To learn about OrCAD circuit simulation software.
(ii) To analysis the bias point and DC sweep of any dc circuit.
(iii) To calculate the DC operating point of the circuit.

Learning Outcome:
Able to know the design procedure of a circuit by using OrCAD. This design
will provides the dc point calculation and also provides the data for analysis by
varying different input parameters value.
Theory:
The use of a computer simulation program allows the student to easily subject
the circuit to various stimuli(such as input signals and power supply variations)
and to see the results in either a tabular format or plotted out graphically, An
Outline of PSpice simulates the behavior of electronic circuits on a digital
computer and tries to emulate both the signal generators and the measurement
equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, curve tracers, and frequency
spectrum analyzers. Bias analysis is a DC analysis where the quiescent point is
studied. You can make a bias analysis to determine the bias point of your
circuit and see its variation with temperature, a design parameter, supply
voltage. Nothing to do specifically with RF amplifiers and resistive
components. The DC Sweep analysis generates output like that of a curve
tracer. It performs a series of Operating Point analyses, modifying the voltage
of a selected source in pre-defined steps, to give a DC transfer curve. You can
also specify an optional secondary source.

Discussion:
This experiment has introduced us to a suite of computer programs that are used
to design electronic circuits. Cadence OrCAD PCB Designer with PSpice
comprises three main applications. PSPICE is a circuit analysis tool that allows
the user to simulate a circuit and extract key voltages and currents. Information
is entered into PSPICE via one of two methods; they are a typed 'Net List' or by
designing a visual a schematic which is transformed into a netlist.. Capture is
used to drawn a circuit on the screen, known formally as schematic capture.
OrCAD is a proprietary software tool suite used primarily for electronic design
automation (EDA). The software is used mainly by electronic design engineers
and electronic technicians to create electronic schematics and electronic prints
for manufacture.
