PROCESSING THE PRESCRIPTION ORDER

I. OBJECTIVES:

To perform/demonstrate the proper steps in processing the prescription.

II. MATERIALS:

Different types of prescription

III. PROCEDURES:

A. Reading and checking the prescription.

1. Collect the prescriptions for study.

2. Read the prescription silently and note anything illegible on the


prescription.

3. Check the generic name, trade name, strength of medication, its


dosage form and quantity.

4. Determine the dose, frequency and method of administration.

B. Labeling prescription

Make a sample label for the prescription studied in accordance with


the Generics Act of 1988.

C. Recording and filling the prescription.

Reproduce a sample copy of a blank leaf of a prescription book and


record at least five (5) prescriptions.
