This report contains the results from the September 2018 Agriculture Survey, which focused on wheat and oats
production in the Southern Plains region. The state level estimates of small grain production for Oklahoma and
Texas are considered "final" for the 2018 crop year.

Data provided by the Oklahoma and Texas operators are the foundation of the estimates made for the Southern
Plains region. We would like to thank all farmers who responded to the September Agriculture Survey.

WINTER WHEAT

Oklahoma wheat production totaled 70.0 million bushels, down from 98.6 million in 2017 and down from
137 million bushels in 2016. Statewide yield averaged 28.0 bushels per acre, 6 bushels below last year.
Harvested acreage for grain is 2.50 million acres, down 14 percent from 2017.

Texas wheat production totaled 56.0 million bushels, down from 68.2 million in 2017 and down from 89.6 million
bushels in 2016. Statewide yield averaged 32.0 bushels per acre, 3 bushels above last year. Harvested acreage
for grain is 1.75 million acres, down 26 percent from 2017.

U.S. Highlights: United States winter wheat production for 2018 totaled 1.18 billion bushels, down slightly from
last month and down 7 percent from 2017. Yield averaged 47.9 bushels per acre, 2 bushel lower than a year
ago. Acreage to be harvested for grain totaled 24.7 million acres, down 2 percent from last year. Oat production
is estimated at 56.1 million bushels, up 14 percent from 2017. Yield is estimated at 64.9 bushels per acre, up
3.2 bushels from the previous year. Barley production, at 153 million bushels, was up 8 percent from last year.
Rye production is estimated at 8.43 million bushels, down 13 percent from 2017.
