The u13’s went the whole Summer undefeated, winning the league with a
significant points difference and claiming one of these medals ( below ).
On Sunday 23rd, Beckenham played in the inaugural U14 London Region Development
tournament with all seven players from the Academy Squad; the team acquitted
themselves very well. After a slow start (2-1 loss to Penguin) the team continually
improved throughout the tournament with wins over Lewisham (2-1), Croydon (6-0) and
Kingston (4-1).
Next up for the U14 is the Kent Tournament (29th / 30th September ) where Beckenham
will be looking to retain the trophy won last year.
For our last games of the season we had a great turn out
all of whom played incredibly well, especially
of 12 girls
Leané and Chanté who earnt their first cap for
Beckenham. We started with a close game against
Sussex, winning 9-8 with a spectacular penultimate goal from Holly. After little rest we were back in the pool to
face Croydon. We put a strong fight with Mia, Holly and Rosie scoring great goals but were beaten by Croydon,
who went
on to win the league. Congratulations to Martha who got awarded MVP.
Men’s
1st Team:
After a summer break the first team were back in action
with two London Premier League games in September.
In the first game we beat Otter 14-12; the game was
relatively
comfortable until a late Beckenham collapse in
the final period. In the second game we lost to a strong
Sutton & Cheam side who look like the champions elect
and are currently
unbeaten with 9 wins from 9. The two matches featured six juniors making their first team debuts
who all more than held their own in the London Premier League: Adam Eastlake, Archie Pearson, Charlie Hill,
Douglas Sheppard, Jude Tinkler-Davies and Tom Cheetham.
with a long journey to Chelmsford away. After conceding a quick succession of goals in the first period we
changed to a much harder press and managed to score some great team goals. Unfortunately, Chelmsford are a
very well drilled team and continued scoring on the counter, eventually Chelmsford winning 18-10. Our next game
was against Crawley at home. We got of to a strong start, being 3-0 up after the first period but Crawly were able
to claw back into the lead, taking advantage of a few mistakes from Beckenham and winning the game 9-5.
U13s Team:
Beckenham u13s won Divison 1 of the London
Summer League finishing the season undefeated after
final weekend wins against Watford and Croydon and
a 8-8 draw with Chelmsford. The u13s were the first team to receive London League medals that will be awarded
to all winners from now on.
