1) ______ ______ is an experimental psychologist who conducts research in visual

cognition, psycholinguistics, and social relations. He grew up in Montreal and earned
his BA from McGill and his PhD from Harvard. Currently Johnstone Professor of
Psychology at Harvard, he has also taught at Stanford and MIT. He has won numerous
prizes for his research, his teaching, and his nine books, including The Language
Instinct, How the Mind Works, The Blank Slate, The Better Angels of Our Nature, and
The Sense of Style. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, a
two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist, a Humanist of the Year, a recipient of nine honorary
doctorates, and one of Foreign Policy’s “World’s Top 100 Public Intellectuals” and
Time’s “100 Most Influential People in the World Today.” He is Chair of the Usage
Panel of the American Heritage Dictionary, and writes frequently for The New York
Times, The Guardian, and other publications. His tenth book, to be published in
February 2018, is called Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science,
Humanism, and Progress.
2) ____ _______ was born on 1928, in Philadelphia and educated at the University of
Pennsylvania, where he received his B.A. (1949), M.A. (1951), and Ph.D. (1955). In
1955, he was appointed to the faculty of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
(MIT), where he has served as professor of foreign languages and linguistics. He has
also taught courses and lectured at many universities throughout the world, including
Oxford University. Besides his work in the field of psycholinguistics, _______ is also
well-known as a leftist activist and social critic. He was an outspoken opponent of the
Vietnam War and has remained critical of media coverage of politics. Although
_______ ’s work is primarily of interest to linguistics scholars, several of his theories
have had popular applications in psychology.

3) ______ ________ was born in Zurich, Switzerland in 1969 and now lives in London.
He is a writer of essayistic books that have been described as a ‘philosophy of
everyday life.’ He’s written on love, travel, architecture and literature. His books have
been bestsellers in 30 countries. _______ also started and helps to run a school in
London called The School of Life, dedicated to a new vision of education. _________’s
latest book, published in April 2016, is titled The Course of Love.

4) _____ _________ is Professor of Philosophy at San Francisco State University,

former Visiting Professor at Duxx Graduate School of Business Leadership in
Monterrey, Mexico, and former Director of the Center for the study of New Religions at
The Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. He was educated in
philosophy at Harvard, Yale and the University of Freiburg, Germany. He has also
served as Research Associate at the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research, as a
Research Fellow at Union Theological Seminary, as Adjunct Professor of Medical
Ethics at the University of California Medical School and as guest Professor of
Religious Studies at the Sorbonne, Paris (1992). In addition to his teaching and
writing, he serves as a consultant in the fields of business, psychology, education,
medical ethics and philanthropy, and is increasingly well known as an organizer and
moderator of conferences in these fields. He has also been featured on Bill Moyers'
acclaimed PBS series, "A World of Ideas." His most recent books are An Unknown
World: Notes on the Meaning of the Earth published by
Tarcher/Penguin, 2012. and Necessary Wisdom published by Fearless Books, 2013.
