TOTAL = 192.433

(B) WETTED PERIMETER & CROSS SECTIONAL AREA OF RIVER CROSS SECTION :
TOTAL WETTED PERIMETER (P) = 192.433 M
CROSS SECTIONAL AREA (A) = 413.262 M2
(C) CALCULATION OF VELOCITY OF FLOW AND MAXIMUM DISCHARGE:

HYDRAULIC MEAN RADIUS (R) = A / P = 2.148

Refer Survey Drawing No. BAN/LS/28/8-99
Chainage of centre line of the proposed bridge is 6 0.000
RL of the deepest point at the centre line at Ch. 0 = 48.05
RL of the deepest point at the upstream side at Ch. 400 = 46.435
RL of the deepest point at downstream side at Ch. 450 = 46.16
Average Slope S = ((48.05-46.435)/400)+((48.05-46.16)/450)
= 0.0041188
N = 0.045 For fair condition of sluggish river reaches ,rather we
Velocity V = 2.374
We assume average velocity V = 2.000 m/sec As the velocity of 3.672m/sec
Discharge Q = 826.523 m3/sec seems to be absolutely absurd.
= 827.00 m3/sec (say)

(D) EFFECTIVE LINEAR WATERWAY UNDER REGIME CONDITION :

Regime width, (W) = C * SQR(Q), where C = 4.8 and Q = 827

So, W = 138.00 m
Bank to Bank distance of river W = ( 162 - 0)
162 m
(E) EFFECTIVE LINEAR WATERWAY PROVIDED:

Effective Linear Waterway [vide clause no. 104.6 of IRC:5 - 1998 (sec-I )]
Le = Distance between two Abutments - Submerge mean width of obstructions,

Chainage point at left bank = 29274.63 m

Chainage point at right bank = 29446.87 m
No. of obsrtuctions = 7 nos.
Mean width of obstructions = 1 m
Therefore, Le = 165.24 m
Mean depth of Scour, As per clause no 110.1.3 of IRC: 5 - 1998 (sec -I),
Dsm = 1.34 * ( Db2 / Ksf )1/3,
Where, Db = Discharge in Cumec per metre width = 5.002 cumec/m
Ksf = Silt Factor = (for medium sand as per clause no 110.1.3 of IRC:5 - 1998)
= 1.25
Therefore, Dsm = 3.64 m
R.L. of H.F.L. = 50.890 m
Therefore R.L. of Mean Scour Level = 50.89 - 3.64
= 47.25 m
say 47.3 m

(F) MAXIMUM DEPTH OF SCOUR IN THE VICINITY OF PIER:

As per IRC : 78 - 2000, Clause no. 703.3.1.1.,

Maximum Depth of Scour in the vicinity of pier = 2.0 * D sm,
= 7.28 m
Therefore, R.L. of deepest scour level near pier = 50.89 - 7.28
= 43.61 m
(G) GRIP LENGTH OF FOUNDATION BELOW MAXIMUM SCOUR LEVEL:
[ Clause no. 705.3.1 of IRC:78 -2000 ]
Grip length = 1/3rd of maximum anticipated scour depth
= 2.43 m
Depth of base of foundation below H.F.L. = 9.70 m

R.L. of minimum foundation level = 50.89 - 9.70

= 41.19 m

R.L. of foundation level of well for pier provided = 15.00 m

Hence O.K.

(H) AFFLUX CALCULATION:

[Vide appendix 1(a) of IRC:89 - 1997 ]
According to Molesworth Formula, Afflux is given by
h1 = [ v2/17.88 + 0.015 ] [ (A/A1)2 -1 ],
where, v = Av. Velocity of river prior to obstruction in m/s, = 2.00
A = Unobstructed sectional area of river m = 2
413.262
Aobs = Sectional area of obstruction in m2 = 25.47
= 26.00 m3 say
A1 = Sectional area of river at obstruction in m = 2 A - Aobs
= 387.262

Therefore, Afflux, h1 = 0.033 m

= 33 mm

(I) VERTICAL CLEARANCE :

The minimum vertical clearance required for maximum discharge of
827 cumec [ as per clause 106.2.1 of IRC:5-1998 ] = 1200
Add: Afflux calculated = 33
Total = 1233

For navigation of vessels of size 32m (L) x 5m (B) x 1m (D) & of tonnage 100T, Minimum vertical
clearance of 4.0m is required at a distance of 1/4th. of clear span from support ends.
(Ref. Vide Clause No. 2.28;Appendix - 5 of M.O.S.T.'s Pocket Handbook for Bridge Engineers and
Clause 106.2.1 of IRC-5:1998)
Considering the varying depth of superstructure, 4.0m vertical clearance has been provided accordingly.

(B) WETTED PERIMETER & CROSS SECTIONAL AREA OF RIVER CROSS SECTION :

TOTAL WETTED PERIMETER (P) = 138.992 M

CROSS SECTIONAL AREA (A) = 601.720 M2

(C) CALCULATION OF VELOCITY OF FLOW AND MAXIMUM DISCHARGE:

HYDRAULIC MEAN RADIUS (R) = A / P = 4.329

Refer Survey Drawing No. BAN/LS/28/8-99
Chainage of centre line of the proposed bridge is 6 0.000
RL of the deepest point at the centre line at Ch. 0 = 48.05
RL of the deepest point at the upstream side at Ch. 400 = 46.435
RL of the deepest point at downstream side at Ch. 450 = 46.16
Average Slope S = ((48.05-46.435)/400)+((48.05-46.16)/450)
= 0.0041188
N = 0.045 For fair condition of sluggish river reaches ,rather we
Velocity V = 3.788
We assume average velocity V = 2.500 m/sec As the velocity of 3.672m/sec
Discharge Q = 1504.299 m /sec
3
seems to be absolutely absurd.
= 1504.00 m3/sec (say)

(D) EFFECTIVE LINEAR WATERWAY UNDER REGIME CONDITION :

Regime width, (W) = C * SQR(Q), where C = 4.8 and Q = 1504

So, W = 186.17 m
Bank to Bank distance of river W = ( 130 - 0)
130 m
(E) EFFECTIVE LINEAR WATERWAY PROVIDED:

Effective Linear Waterway [vide clause no. 104.6 of IRC:5 - 1998 (sec-I )]
Le = Distance between two Abutments - Submerge mean width of obstructions,

Chainage point at left bank = 0 m

Chainage point at right bank = 130 m
No. of obsrtuctions = 10 nos.
Mean width of obstructions = 8 m
Therefore, Le = 50 m
Mean depth of Scour, As per clause no 110.1.3 of IRC: 5 - 1998 (sec -I),
Dsm = 1.34 * ( Db2 / Ksf )1/3,
Where, Db = Discharge in Cumec per metre width = 30.086 cumec/m
Ksf = Silt Factor = (for medium sand as per clause no 110.1.3 of IRC:5 - 1998)
= 0.5
Therefore, Dsm = 16.33 m
R.L. of H.F.L. = 52.800 m
Therefore R.L. of Mean Scour Level = 52.8 - 16.33
= 36.47 m
say 36.5 m

(F) MAXIMUM DEPTH OF SCOUR IN THE VICINITY OF PIER:

As per IRC : 78 - 2000, Clause no. 703.3.1.1.,

Maximum Depth of Scour in the vicinity of pier = 2.0 * D sm,
= 32.66 m
Therefore, R.L. of deepest scour level near pier = 52.8 - 32.66
= 20.14 m

(G) GRIP LENGTH OF FOUNDATION BELOW MAXIMUM SCOUR LEVEL:

[ Clause no. 705.3.1 of IRC:78 -2000 ]
Grip length = 1/3rd of maximum anticipated scour depth
= 10.89 m
Depth of base of foundation below H.F.L. = 43.55 m
R.L. of minimum foundation level = 52.8 - 43.55
= 9.25 m

R.L. of foundation level of well for pier provided = 5.00 m

Hence O.K.

(H) AFFLUX CALCULATION:

[Vide appendix 1(a) of IRC:89 - 1997 ]
According to Molesworth Formula, Afflux is given by
h1 = [ v2/17.88 + 0.015 ] [ (A/A1)2 -1 ],
where, v = Av. Velocity of river prior to obstruction in m/s, = 2.50
A = Unobstructed sectional area of river m2 = 601.720
Aobs = Sectional area of obstruction in m2 = 1306.51
= 1307.00
m3 say
A1 = Sectional area of river at obstruction in m 2 = A - Aobs
= -705.280

Therefore, Afflux, h1 = -0.099 m

= -99 mm

(I) VERTICAL CLEARANCE :

The minimum vertical clearance required for maximum discharge of
1504 cumec [ as per clause 106.2.1 of IRC:5-1998 ] = 1200
Add: Afflux calculated = -99
Total = 1101

CROSS SECTIONAL AREA (A) = 799.164 M2

(C) CALCULATION OF VELOCITY OF FLOW AND MAXIMUM DISCHARGE:

HYDRAULIC MEAN RADIUS (R) = A / P = 5.225

Refer Survey Drawing No. BAN/LS/28/8-99
Chainage of centre line of the proposed bridge is 6 0.000
RL of the deepest point at the centre line at Ch. 0 = 48.05
RL of the deepest point at the upstream side at Ch. 400 = 46.435
RL of the deepest point at downstream side at Ch. 450 = 46.16
Average Slope S = ((48.05-46.435)/400)+((48.05-46.16)/450)

N = 0.045 For fair condition of sluggish river reaches ,rather we
Velocity V = 4.294
We assume average velocity V = 2.500 m/sec As the velocity of 3.672m/sec
Discharge Q = 1997.909 m3/sec seems to be absolutely absurd.
= 1998.00 m3/sec (say)

(D) EFFECTIVE LINEAR WATERWAY UNDER REGIME CONDITION :

Regime width, (W) = C * SQR(Q), where C = 4.8 and Q = 1998

So, W = 214.55 m
Bank to Bank distance of river W = ( 152 - 0)
152 m
(E) EFFECTIVE LINEAR WATERWAY PROVIDED:

Effective Linear Waterway [vide clause no. 104.6 of IRC:5 - 1998 (sec-I )]
Le = Distance between two Abutments - Submerge mean width of obstructions,

Chainage point at left bank = 0 m

Chainage point at right bank = 162 m
No. of obsrtuctions = 10 nos.
Mean width of obstructions = 8 m
Therefore, Le = 82 m
Mean depth of Scour, As per clause no 110.1.3 of IRC: 5 - 1998 (sec -I),
Dsm = 1.34 * ( Db2 / Ksf )1/3,
Where, Db = Discharge in Cumec per metre width = 24.365 cumec/m
Ksf = Silt Factor = (for medium sand as per clause no 110.1.3 of IRC:5 - 1998)

Therefore, Dsm = 14.19 m
R.L. of H.F.L. = 52.800 m
Therefore R.L. of Mean Scour Level = 52.8 - 14.19

Therefore, R.L. of deepest scour level near pier = 52.8 - 28.38
= 24.42 m

(G) GRIP LENGTH OF FOUNDATION BELOW MAXIMUM SCOUR LEVEL:

[ Clause no. 705.3.1 of IRC:78 -2000 ]
Grip length = 1/3rd of maximum anticipated scour depth
= 9.46 m
Depth of base of foundation below H.F.L. = 37.84 m

R.L. of minimum foundation level = 52.8 - 37.84

= 14.96 m
R.L. of foundation level of well for pier provided = 15.00 m
Hence O.K.

(H) AFFLUX CALCULATION:

[Vide appendix 1(a) of IRC:89 - 1997 ]
According to Molesworth Formula, Afflux is given by
h1 = [ v2/17.88 + 0.015 ] [ (A/A1)2 -1 ],
where, v = Av. Velocity of river prior to obstruction in m/s, = 2.50
A = Unobstructed sectional area of river m = 2
799.164
Aobs = Sectional area of obstruction in m2 = 1135.13
= 1136.00
m3 say
A1 = Sectional area of river at obstruction in m 2 = A - Aobs
= -336.836

Therefore, Afflux, h1 = 1.688 m

= 1688 mm

CROSS SECTIONAL AREA (A) = 686.850 M2
(C) CALCULATION OF VELOCITY OF FLOW AND MAXIMUM DISCHARGE:

HYDRAULIC MEAN RADIUS (R) = A / P = 3.076

Refer Survey Drawing No. BAN/LS/28/8-99
Chainage of centre line of the proposed bridge is 6 0.000
RL of the deepest point at the centre line at Ch. 0 = 48.05
RL of the deepest point at the upstream side at Ch. 400 = 46.435
RL of the deepest point at downstream side at Ch. 450 = 46.16
Average Slope S = ((48.05-46.435)/400)+((48.05-46.16)/450)

N = 0.045 For fair condition of sluggish river reaches ,rather we
Velocity V = 3.016
We assume average velocity V = 2.500 m/sec As the velocity of 3.672m/sec
Discharge Q = 1717.125 m3/sec seems to be absolutely absurd.
= 1717.00 m3/sec (say)

(D) EFFECTIVE LINEAR WATERWAY UNDER REGIME CONDITION :

Regime width, (W) = C * SQR(Q), where C = 4.8 and Q = 1717

So, W = 198.90 m

Mean depth of Scour, As per clause no 110.1.3 of IRC: 5 - 1998 (sec -I),
Dsm = 1.34 * ( Db2 / Ksf )1/3,
Where, Db = Discharge in Cumec per metre width = 10.392 cumec/m
Ksf = Silt Factor = (for medium sand as per clause no 110.1.3 of IRC:5 - 1998)
= 1.25
Therefore, Dsm = 5.92 m
R.L. of H.F.L. = 52.800 m
Therefore R.L. of Mean Scour Level = 52.8 - 5.92
= 46.88 m
say 46.9 m

(F) MAXIMUM DEPTH OF SCOUR IN THE VICINITY OF PIER:

As per IRC : 78 - 2000, Clause no. 703.3.1.1.,

Maximum Depth of Scour in the vicinity of pier = 2.0 * D sm,
= 11.85 m
Therefore, R.L. of deepest scour level near pier = 52.8 - 11.85
= 40.95 m
(G) GRIP LENGTH OF FOUNDATION BELOW MAXIMUM SCOUR LEVEL:
[ Clause no. 705.3.1 of IRC:78 -2000 ]
Grip length = 1/3rd of maximum anticipated scour depth
= 3.95 m
Depth of base of foundation below H.F.L. = 15.80 m

R.L. of minimum foundation level = 52.8 - 15.80

= 37.00 m

R.L. of foundation level of well for pier provided = 15.00 m

Hence O.K.

(H) AFFLUX CALCULATION:

[Vide appendix 1(a) of IRC:89 - 1997 ]
According to Molesworth Formula, Afflux is given by
h1 = [ v2/17.88 + 0.015 ] [ (A/A1)2 -1 ],
where, v = Av. Velocity of river prior to obstruction in m/s, = 2.50
A = Unobstructed sectional area of river m = 2
686.850
Aobs = Sectional area of obstruction in m2 = 41.47
= 42.00 m3 say
A1 = Sectional area of river at obstruction in m = 2 A - Aobs
= 644.850

Therefore, Afflux, h1 = 0.049 m

= 49 mm

(I) VERTICAL CLEARANCE :

The minimum vertical clearance required for maximum discharge of
1717 cumec [ as per clause 106.2.1 of IRC:5-1998 ] = 1200
Add: Afflux calculated = 49
Total = 1249

For navigation of vessels of size 32m (L) x 5m (B) x 1m (D) & of tonnage 100T, Minimum vertical
clearance of 4.0m is required at a distance of 1/4th. of clear span from support ends.
