The assumed "broken wire" condition shall apply only for the conductor or
sub-conductor or earthwire considered broken, loadings forthe intact conductors
shall be based on normal working spans.
The term “basic span lengtt’ shall mean the horizontal distance between centres
of adjacent supports on level ground from which the height of standard supports
is derived with the specified conductor clearances to ground in stil air at
maximum temperature.
The term “wind spar? shall mean half the sum of adjacent horizontal span
lengths supported on any one tower.
The term "weight spar? shall mean the equivalent length of the weight of
conductor supported at any one tower at minimum temperature in stil air, At
suspension position, the minimum weight of conductor supported shall not be
less than 25 percent of the total weight of conductor in the two adjacent spans. In
steep sloping country where the gradient between adjacent support points
exceeds 15 degrees to the horizontal, special consideration shall be given to the
vertical loading on towers. Wherever an Aircraft Warning System has to be fitted

22 — Design Spans
Tho design of al structures shall conform to the following basic, wind and weight spans
as indicated in the Tables below. The optimisation of wind span is not permitted for
towers designed with 0 to 2 degree angle of line deviation,
