Lyric Poetry!

Directions:
1) I will ​listen to and derive meaning about​ the studied ​Lyric Poem ​(a poem that is often
written in first person POV​, expresses​ strong emotion​ and feelings, and has a ​rhyme pattern​).
2) I will ​apply reading strategies such as:​ “Clarify,” “Connect,” “Visualize,” “Summarize,”
“Respond,” “Question” ​to help me interpret and analyze the poem.
3) I will ​make strong predictions ​about the author’s craft (consider how the poet’s writing
style conveys the mood, imagery, central message/theme of the poem).
4) I will ​write write inferences about the poem’s structure, message, point of view, and
literary devices ​(sensory language, figurative language, word choice) using the Writing in
the Margins frame
5) My small group will ​create an Anchor Chart ​representing our interpretations of one
poem, and publish it in a Gallery Walk for others to see!
