ELEMENTS

1. Main characters
- Protagonist : Ryohei, 2 little boys, Ryohei’s mom and dad, the labourers.
- There is no antagonist in this story.

2. Setting
- evening in early February
- The edge of town

3. Plot Summary
- There was an eight years old boy who wanted to work as a labourer. One day he
went out to work with the labourers. It was almost sundown and he noticed that
he came a long way from his home, so he needed to run back home alone.

4. Type of Conflict
- Man vs. Himself,
- The reason why Ryohei needed to run back home alone was because he decided
to go to work with the labourers by himself. (unclear)

5. Theme / Moral (lesson)

- We need to think carefully before we do something.

6. POINT OF VIEW

PLOT LINE
(BRIEFLY explain what is asked for in each number)

3. CLIMAX
A. What is the story’s climax?
- The climax is when Ryohei ran back to his house alone before sundown.
B. How would you change the climax if you were the writer? Why?
- I want to change the climax by changing the story. When Ryohei was running back home,
he was kidnapped by the other labourers. At the end, no one in his family found him,
because he always had a problem with his family. I change the climax so the readers can
think more about how dangerous it can be if we let the kids do what they want alone.
- (Does the change of the climax makes the story better?)
C. Identify ONE figure of speech or idiom used by the writer in this part of the plot, and explain its
meaning.
- Imagery : the car sped down the tracks, whipping up the fragrant smell from the tangerine
orchards.
- Meaning : This sentence means that as soon as they all jumped into the car, it sped down
and then the fragrant smell came out.

- analysis in B is weak
- meaning of the idiom in C is wrong
