A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics VI

I. Objectives
A. Content Standard
Demonstrate Understanding about surface area of cube, prisms, pyramids,
cylinder, cone and sphere.
B. Performance Standard
Able to apply knowledge of getting the surface area in mathematical problem and
real-life situation.
C. Learning Competencies
Find the surface area of cube, prism, pyramid, cylinder, cone and sphere. (M6ME-
IIIi-93)

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Surface Area
B. Materials: LED Projector, Figures
C. Reference: K to 12 Mathematics Curriculum Guide

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activity

1. Review
“Good Afternoon Grade 6” Good Afternoon Sir
What was the topic Discussed by Ma’am Surface Area
Jane?

2. Motivation
The teacher will show figures and flash
questions and students will answer.
“ I have here your names and I will pick one
and you will answer my questions”

 What is surface area?

 What is lateral area?
 What formula do we use to get the surface LA=ph and SA=LA + 2B
area of a cube?
 What formula do we use to get the surface LA=ph and SA=LA + 2B
area of a prism?
 What formula do we use to get the surface LA= 4(1/2 ×b×h) and SA=LA + B
area of a pyramid?
 What formula do we use to get the surface LA=2πrh and SA=LA + 2B
area of a cylinder?
 What formula do we use to get the surface
LA=πrs and SA=LA + B
area of a cone?
 What formula do we use to get the surface
SA= 4πr^2
area of a sphere?

B. Lesson Proper
1. Presentation
Group the students into 6 and give
each group 1 word problem for each
figures.

2. Discussion
Let the students present their work on the
board.
The teacher will evaluate, explain and
clarify the word problem.

3. Deepening/ Application
The teacher will provide figures and let
the students find its surface area by
measuring the length of the figure.

IV. Generalization
How do we get the surface area of cube? Prism? Cylinder? Cone? Pyramid? Sphere?

V. Evaluation
1. A certain music box has the shape of a cube. Each side of the music box is 9 cm long.
What is the surface area of the box?
2. A salt container has the shape of a cylinder. The radius of the container is 1.5 inches
and the height is 6 inches. Find the surface area of the container.
3. Jason is wrapping a present, the box he is using is a rectangular prism with a length of
11 inches, a width of 7 inches and a height of 4 inches. Find how many square inches
of paper he needs to wrap the entire box.
4. The base of a cone has a diameter of 8 inches. Its slant side is 14 cm. What is its
surface area?
5. Nicole has a square pyramid. The area of the square is 36cm and the slant height is
9cm. find the total surface area of the pyramid.

VI. Assignment
Find any figure in your house and measure it. Find its surface area.
