Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

This tool is a very helpful tool for teachers and students to use in and out of the classroom. If students have
technology at home, students are able to access this tool at home, but must download it first. You are able to
type in and search whatever you would like, so this could be useable for students who are bilingual. You are
able to hyperlink things from the web to integrate more learning opportunities within this tool. Students are
able to publish their work and save it. Students who may need help talking notes are able to create an outline
more easily with this tool.

Lesson idea implementation:

During this lesson, the teacher will be introducing the three states of matter to the students by introducing
the video first. The students could create a new outline rather than the one that is created already. The
teacher could as the students what the three states of matter are and then ask them if they know of any
examples of each of them. The teacher can rapid fire the text boxes so many students are able to participate.
The project will be introduced with a video so students can get a better understanding of what matter is. If
this topic was already introduced, the students should be able to give the three states of matter when the
teachers asks.
Student learning will be assessed by seeing what the students know when asked questions. The students can
create their own graphic organizer on the three states of matter and create examples of their own. This
lesson would take approximately a couple days to complete if this is just now being introduced. If the lesson
was already introduced, the students should take about an entire class period. The final product can be used
to differentiate learning by seeing how each student can think of all the different examples of the three types
of matter. This lesson could be extended by having students create their own graphic organizers and then
create a summarizing paragraph on the three types of matter and what they are and examples of them. The
lesson would be concluded by asking students to explain what they have learned during this lesson and what
the three types of matter are in the world. I would provide feedback to students by looking at the graphic
organizers they created and assessing if they know the information. If students create a summarizing
paragraph, the students could be assessed by that and given feedback on their writing.

Reflective Practice:
The activities I created could impact student learning by them knowing what the three types of matter are
and being able to give examples of them. This is part of the curriculum for second grade as they are supposed
to know the states of matter and examples of them. To further extend the lesson, the students could create
their own graphic organizer on the three states of matter, define them, and give examples on them. When
students finish the graphic organizer, students could create a summarizing paragraph of the graphic organizer
on the three states of matter. There are many technology tools that could enhance this project, like
BrainPop, as in introductory video.
