WHEREAS all have an obligation before the Almighty God to account for all
their material possessions, and this obligation is particularly important in a
religious congregation, manifesting itself in the fulfillment of the vow of and
virtue of poverty,
WHEREAS further, the Father Founder has stated many times to Fr. Charles
Carpenter, M.A.P. that those congregations that fail in poverty disappear
because of the wrath of God,
WHEREAS further, we have observed that there has been a noticeable absence
of poverty and carelessness in material things and gifts of the donors. Specific
manifestations of the lack of poverty include:
WHEREAS according to canon law the will of the founder is most important
and sufficient in itself and without any further inquiry.
Board of Directors
BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
1 The real spirit of poverty should be kept, out of filial fear of the
punishments of God.
2 Everyone, from the superior to the last of the subjects, should examine
themselves each day on how they keep the spirit of holy poverty.
3 There should be a scrupulous observance of the accounting procedures
set forth by the Board of Directors.
4 The superior should be willing to know his limitations, and on things he
cannot do, he should be willing to delegate to his subalterns. He should
never make it difficult for the subjects to accomplish something that he is
unable to do.
5 The superior with loving kindness, and never with a cold attitude, should
approach his subjects and help them in all ways he can, many times a
day, if it is necessary. One of the vocations of your monastery was about
to quit, because of the coldness of the superior.
6 It is vitally important to train the brothers in their basic knowledge of
catechism, that most of them don’t know. This way their pastoral work
on Sundays will be efficacious. This is a serious duty of the superior.
7 This document should be translated into spanish and a copy returned to
the Board of Directors forthwith. Further this document should be read
three times, morning, noon and night, to every member of the monastery.
Believe us, dear brothers, it is not easy or pleasant to convey this
message to you, who are so dear to our hearts. But our duty before the
almighty God demands it. If you take this properly, you are working for
real humility and sanctity, but if you don’t, it will be your most wretched
disgrace.
These resolutions are hereby adopted by the Father Founder and the Board of
Directors on this Sunday of August 31, 1980.
