Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah, son of Amathi saying,

And went up into it to sail with them to Tharsis from the presence of the Lord

For the men knew that he he was fleeing from the presence of the Lord, because he has told them

ὅτι ἡ θάλασσα ἐπορεύετο καὶ ἐξήγειρεν μᾶλλον κλύδωνα.

And they cried out to the Lord and said “by no means, Lord”

Do not let the men, the animals, the cows, and the sheep taste

And from the injustice in their hands saying
καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς ἀδικίας τῆς ἐν χερσὶν αὐτῶν λέγοντες

Who knows if God will repent and turn way from the anger of his wrath and we may not perish?
9 Τίς οἶδεν εἰ μετανοήσει ὁ θεὸς καὶ ἀποστρέψει ἐξ ὀργῆς θυμοῦ αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐ μὴ ἀπολώμεθα;
And God saw their deeds, that they turned away from their evil ways
10 καὶ εἶδεν ὁ θεὸς τὰ ἔργα αὐτῶν, ὅτι ἀπέστρεψαν ἀπὸ τῶν ὁδῶν αὐτῶν τῶν πονηρῶν,
And God repented at the calamity, by which he spoke to do to them, and he did not do it.
καὶ μετενόησεν ὁ θεὸς ἐπὶ τῇ κακίᾳ, ᾗ ἐλάλησεν τοῦ ποιῆσαι αὐτοῖς, καὶ οὐκ ἐποίησεν.
Because of this I escaped to Tharsis, for I knew that you are merciful and compassionate
διὰ τοῦτο προέφθασα τοῦ φυγεῖν εἰς Θαρσις, διότι ἔγνων ὅτι σὺ ἐλεήμων καὶ οἰκτίρμων,
