‘KAMMERMODERNISTEN’
The Chamber Modernists
‘For those who wish to break the musical boundaries.’
This ensemble is dedicated to exploring all styles of classical music in blocks of periods. We
begin with the earlier styles such as Baroque and Classical and begin to move to Romantic and
late Impressionist styles. In the second half of the year, we will explore the more modern
styles of music, looking into the most absurd styles of Post-Modernism. The final bracket
involves digging into the roots of the country we live in, discovering works from Australian
composers who are known for their effect on the country’s face in the classical world.
REHEARSALS: Friday Afternoon, 3:30-4:30, location TBC (rehearsal dates and times/length
may be subject to change).
REQUIREMENTS: passion, life and dedication (although AMEB level 4-5+ recommended); sight
reading skills should be present but do not have to be exceptional.
“AUDITION”: Very informal, just to make sure we know who is coming in. Some sight reading
and scales; candidates should bring a small excerpt of a piece in order to prove ability
(something as simple as an exam piece would be sufficient). Dates will be confirmed
(flexibility is key in both regards, I can’t audition everyone over a long period of time).
INSTRUMENTS WHO CAN APPLY: Flute/Piccolo (ect…), Oboe, Clarinet (ect…), Bassoon, Horn
in F, Trumpet (ect…), Trombone, Tuba, Percussion, Strings. Also looking for potential soloists
(vocalists and pianists are welcome). We can’t accommodate everyone but we’ll do our best
to make sure you play at some stage (you’ll be put on as a reserve and asked to play at another
time in the year).
Come and help us create a new face for the music of yesterday and today!
