SEPTEMBER 2018
INTRODUCTION:

Home automation has always been a hot buzzing topic to learn or work on. It is really
convenient to control AC appliances wirelessly. There are lots of ways to do this and
imagination is the limit. In this project we will learn the most simple and learn the most
simple and easy way to build a wireless home automation project in which we can toggle
loads by using 433 MHz RF transmitter and receiver module. This project does not involves
any microcontroller hence no programming is required.

COMPONENT REQUIRED:
S. NO. NAME RATING/SPECIFICATION QUANTITY
1. RF Module 433MHz 1
2. Decoder IC HTI2D 1
3. Encoder IC HTI2E 1
4 Relay Module 5V 1
5 Push Button 0-12V 10
6 Resistor 10K Ohm 25
7 LED 3V 20
8 Decoding IC 74LS154 2
9 5V transformer 5V 1
10 Battery 9V 2
11 PN aDiode IN4007 5
12 PCB Board Copper 3
13 Transistor n-p-n 2

Encoder and Decoder Circuit Principle:

When we press any key in the remote, the transmitter section generates the corresponding RF
signal and this signal is received by the receiver section, hence it switches the corresponding
appliance. A four channel encoder/decoder pair is used in this system. The input signals at the
transmitter section are taken from the four switches and the output signals at the receiver are
indicated by the four LED’s corresponding to each switch.

WORKING OF HOME AUTOMATION SYSTEM:

We have used two zero PCB, one for the transmitter part and the other for the receiver part.
We have also used LEDs to demonstrate the project. Transmitter is powered by the 9V
battery and Receiver section is powered by 12V battery. Appliances are powered by AC
supply and Relay is use to control the load on appliances.

Once we power on both the circuits (transmitter and receiver) we can start switching loads by
using the switches present on the Transmitter circuit. When the any switch is pressed it
connects the pin D13 of encoder IC to ground and this value is sent to the decoder IC via the
RF medium.

After the decoder receives the value of D13 is also makes its D11 pin to be zero. This means
no voltage is given to the input pin of the relay module and the Phase wire will be connected
via the Common (Com) and the normally closed (NC) terminals. The same happens in vise
versa to turn off the load. You can now play around this set-up by toggling your switches and
your loads should also be toggled accordingly. The range of these modules could extend
(tested up to 3 meters) by using antenna on the transmitter module.
APPLICATIONS:
There are a numbers of applications of RF-based home automation system and best one of
them is it is provide best solution for disabled persons who faces many problem while
switching home appliances.

Other applications are following:

 Burglar alarm, smoke alarm, fire alarm, car alarm, security system, etc.
 Car door and garage door controllers
 Cordless telephone
 Other remote control systems
 Wireless security systems
 Car alarm systems
 Remote controls

FUTURE SCOPE

The home technology across the globe are transforming rapidly and on a track of continuous
development in order to provide the end users with ease and convenience to their lives.
Owing to the increasing penetration of IoT , North America is largest adopter of home
automation system followed by Europe, while Asia pacific region with growing numbers of
infrastructures and increasing technological trends is anticipated to be the fastest growing
regions in term of home automation system market.

Further range can be extended to a larger distance by increasing the height of antenna and it
also handle heavy loads up to 7 Amperes. Global home automation system market is
expected to grow from US$ 35.24 billion in 2016 to US$ 113.82 billion by 2025 at a CAGR
of 13.93% between 2017 and 2025.
