SUMO WRESTLING
It is said that about 2,500 years ago, the
gods Takemikazuchi and Takeminakata
fought a duel in a Sumo battle.
Sumo is a type of wrestling where two
opposing fighters or rikishi face each
other in a circular area. It is of Japanese
origin and maintains much of the ancient
tradition.
1. The first fighter to touch the ground
with any part of his body except for his
feet is eliminated.
2. The first fighter to make contact with
the outside of the fighting circle (either
with his feet or any other part of his body)
is eliminated.
3. A fighter who uses an illegal technique
or kinjite is eliminated.
4. If a wrestler loses the mawashi (the
only clothing used during a sumo match),
it is eliminated.
Sumo matches usually last a few seconds
as one of the fighters is usually pushed
immediately out of the circle.}
The athletes who practice sumo are
recognized for their large size.
The sumo rings are known as dohyÅ. The
dohyÅ is made of clay with sand
scattered on its surface.
For almost 99% of the Japanese
population is highly esteemed and
valuable professional combat art, so
unlike many places the "Gorditos" for
many but "Combat Warriors" for them,
are highly recognized, respectable and
valued in this culture.

Se dice que hace alrededor de 2.500 años,
los dioses Takemikazuchi y Takeminakata se
batieron a duelo en un combate de Sumo.
El sumo es un tipo de lucha libre donde dos
luchadores contrincantes o rikishi se
enfrentan en un área circular. Es de origen
japonés y mantiene gran parte de la tradición
antigua.
1. El primer luchador en tocar el suelo con
alguna parte de su cuerpo a excepción de sus
pies queda eliminado.
2. El primer luchador en hacer contacto con
el exterior del círculo de lucha (ya sea con
sus pies o cualquier otra parte de su cuerpo)
queda eliminado.
3. Un luchador que utiliza una técnica ilegal o
kinjite queda eliminado.
4. Si un luchador pierde el mawashi (única
vestimenta utilizada durante un combate de
sumo), queda eliminado.
Los encuentros de sumo suelen durar pocos
segundos ya que uno de los luchadores suele
ser empujado inmediatamente fuera del
círculo.}
Los deportistas que practican sumo son
reconocidos por su gran tamaño.
Los rings de sumo son conocidos como
dohyÅ•. El dohyÅ• está hecho de arcilla con
arena esparcida sobre su superficie.
Para casi el 99% de la población japonesa es
de gran estima y valor este arte profesional
de combate, por eso a diferencia de muchos
lugares los "Gorditos" para muchos pero
"Guerreros de Combate" para ellos, son muy
reconocidos, respetables y valorados en esta
cultura.
