• The New Testament / Christian Church - established A.D. 30
on the day of Pentecost. The Day of Pentecost was fifty days after Jesus rose from the dead and 10 days after He ascended to heaven. The Holy Spirit came to the apostles and guided their thoughts as Jesus had promised in John 16:13, 14. He gave the apostles the ability to speak in other languages so that the message could be heard in the language of those present. Peter declared, in his first message, that Jesus is the Christ and proved through his citing of Old Testament prophecies and the testimony of the apostles that Jesus had risen. Many Jews were convicted that they had crucified the Son of God and asked Peter how they could be saved from their sin. Peter replied, "Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." (Acts 2:38). Three thousand responded to the invitation of salvation that day! And we continue the same message of salvation today. Acts 2:1-4 1)When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2)And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3) Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of the. 4)And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:41-47 41)Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. 42)And they continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43)Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44)Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common. 45) And sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. 46)So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart. 47)Praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. • Jesus Christ - the Founder of the Christian Church Matthew 16:15-18 15)He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" 16)Simon Peter answered and said "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." 17)Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18)"And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. • Jesus Christ - the Foundation of the Christian Church Ephesians 2:19-21 19)Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God. 20)And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone. 21)In whom the whole building, being fitted together, groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord;
