The issue that I chose with educational technology is the issue of quality of life.

I chose
this issue because I thought it was an interesting perspective and I believe it is a real concern
when it comes to the amount of technology that is used today. The biggest issue within this
concern is the idea of cyber bullying. With technology as active as it is today and social media
being something that is even used in the classroom, cyberbullying is something that is becoming
a rising issue for students today. Cyberbullying makes bullying easier and allows the bully to be
anonymous giving them more power. It also allows the bully to reach a larger audience and
humiliate someone even more and it can happen anywhere at any time. (Zaborskis, Ilionsky,
Tesler, & Heinz, 2018) The source that drew me to this issue was the resource for week 4 called
Issues that Shape Educational Technology by Amanda Todd. In her presentation she lists quality
of life under a social issue. I dug a little deeper into what that could mean and found that
cyberbullying is a big problem among today’s students. Cyberbullying would definitely impact
quality of life. Students who are being bullied online would not be getting the quality of life they
should be because they would always have to worry about the people online that are going to be
after them. In addition to Amanda Todd’s presentation and the article I have already referenced I
found another one that touched on the subject. This particular article explores the idea that
cyberbullying is a form of aggression and may even have the same effects on the person and the
victim as physical aggression. (Mehari & Farrell, 2018) The fact that cyberbullying can be
related to physical aggression means that it is bad for the victim and the aggressor. This is an
interesting study to consider reading and learning more about. Another article I would
recommend exploring to learn more about this issue is one that discusses the issue of higher
education cyberbullying. It discusses the issue that even students in college are being
cyberbullying and that it causes unneeded stress and can have a negative impact on their grades.
(Luker & Curchack, 2017) I recommend these three articles and doing your own research as well
as this is a very important issue that every teacher incorporating technology into their classroom
should be aware of.
