Preface

Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) is one of the leading institutes of higher
education in Pakistan, which not only provides the youth of Pakistan with the opportunity to
excel in academia, but also encourages different forms of art, culture and talent. The very
existence of multiple student led societies at LUMS promotes diversity that renders the institute
unsurpassed in terms of both academics and extra-curricular activities. With that said, LUMS is
also the home for Pakistan’s biggest photography society i.e. LUMS Photography Society which
provides all aspiring photography entrepreneurs not only from LUMS but from all over Pakistan
with a chance to exploit their talent and refine it through workshops, competitions and photo-
walks. Perceiving the growing interest of young, enthusiastic individuals in photography, LUMS
Photography society will be hosting the 5th edition of LUMS Annual Photography Summit,
Social Responsibility Program and LUMS Annual Photography Exhibition in the academic year
2017-2018.

Attached are the extensive details for the marketing proposal for the academic year 2017-2018

Executive Summary

Throughout the year, LUMS Photography Society not only engages itself with on campus
activities, workshops and ‘Photo Walks’ for Human of LUMS, it also aims to dedicate itself to
three main projects for the entire academic year. They include the LUMS Annual Photography
Summit, Annual Exhibition and the Social Responsibility Program.

The LUMS Annual Photography Summit is a 3-day event, set to include 6 competitions, 2
Workshops & 2 Social events. LAPS’18 will give our sponsor brands extensive on-ground and
online exposure, via the expected 500+ delegates and over 3500 LUMS student body, who will
be present at the event. Furthermore, sponsor brands will receive extensive branding on the
LUMS Photography Society Facebook page, which has over 200,000 subscribers, as well as the
LUMS Photography Society website & LAPS web portals. Our major sponsorship packages are
Platinum (Rs. 1,500,000), Gold (Rs. 1,000,000) & Silver (Rs. 750,000). Further branding details
along with individual events can be found further in the proposal.

Even though our Social Responsibility Program might not be dedicated with an entire solo event,
it adds to the both the photography society and the society around it. Branding options are
available under the General Sponsorship Packages again which can enhance a brands public

LUMS Photography Society

Being regarded as one of the most prestigious societies of LUMS, the society provides all
aspiring photography entrepreneurs in the University with a chance to exploit their talent and
refine it through workshops and photo-walks.

LUMS Photography Society has been inviting


people such as Irfan Ahson, Dodi and Bilal
Rathore, people at the forefront of photography in
Pakistan, on its orientation and workshops to
provide guidance to the members of the society.
Now, it aims to grow further, by arranging multi-
dimensional events and social responsibility
programs, thereby providing the stakeholders with
varying experiences to excel in the field of
photography.

The LUMS Photographic Society has been working for many years now in the LUMS
community, fostering a sense of shared passion and helping the growth of skills of the young
aspiring but amateur photographers that enter
LUMS. Since its inception, many years ago, each
and every one of its councils and general bodies
have worked their utmost in improving its status
inside LUMS and bringing it forth as an able
society among the many others. The LUMS
Photographic Society has not only provided
training, workshops and great practical
photography opportunities through at least 5 trips a
year to its own members but it has also benefited the LUMS community at large by providing
coverage facility to almost every single event that other societies and departments hold
frequently.

LUMS Photography Society also arranged three-day workshops with acclaimed photographers
like Dodi and Yasir Nisar who shared their techniques and photography skills with not only the
members of the LUMS Photographic Society but also with the general LUMS community.

Photo booths are also very frequently arranged by the society on numerous events held at LUMS.
The very successful Photography Exhibition served as yet another jewel in its crown when the
Vice Chancellor of LUMS himself bestowed it with the honor of his presence, not to mention the
media coverage at the event which brought the LUMS Photographic Society national
recognition. After years of advancing photographic skills and gaining immense experience and
dedicated service to the LUMS community, we now believe that it should branch out to share its
knowledge and interest for the art of photography with other students outside of LUMS.

LUMS Photography Society and YOUR BRAND

LUMS Photography Society, through LUMS Annual Photography Summit (LAPS), Annual
Exhibition and Social Responsibility program provides a platform for your brand to network
with stakeholders across the land.

Through LAPS, it provides an opportunity for students from all over Pakistan, who wish to learn
and develop their photographic skills to gather together in an enriching environment and nurture
their photographic knowledge in a
more creative and competitive way.
This represents a unique opportunity
for your Brand, as we aim to receive
up to 600 delegates from across the
country, i.e. representatives from up
to 100 educational institutions. The
delegates will represent all socio-
economic classes, and will primarily
be aged between 17-23 years.
Another important factor to note, is the LUMS student body itself, which comprises over 3000
students, and is uniquely exposed to all conference related branding in the weeks leading up to it.

The LAPS team hopes to make the 5th annual


LAPS Conference a success as there is a dire need
to promote art forms such as photography in a
country where younger talent in these fields does
not get the exposure it deserves. It will also be an
excellent networking opportunity for them,
including with representatives from your brand.

Furthermore, we will be inviting notable names in


Photography for our various events, such as the
Opening Ceremony, and LAPS will be getting
coverage in Newspapers, Blogs, Radio as well as
Television. One of the biggest assets of the LUMS
Photographic Society is our Facebook page, with
200,000+ subscribers; making it one of the most
followed pages amongst university societies in Pakistan. There is no better advertising
opportunity in today’s day and age than to have a strong internet presence, and our Facebook
page will be used extensively for the purpose of promoting the LAPS Conference and our

Adding to its major events in an academic year, LUMS Photography Society will be dedicating
an entire exhibition based event to Photographers who lack the platform to showcase their talent
and where competing might earn them enchanting rewards. A two-day event will revolve around
workshops and where showcasing in the pinnacle of objectives, an opportunity to showcasing
your brand cannot get any better.

As the biggest photography society of Pakistan, the newly initiated Social Responsibility
Program by LUMS Photography Society will try to engage the less privileged society of Pakistan
and their stories with the general public. As already mentioned, with already over 200,000
subscribers with each post having

LAPS 2018, Events and Competitions

• “Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is
captured forever… It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten

In many ways, this quote captures the essence of not only the art of Photography but of LAPS’18
as well. Not only will we teach delegates how to improve their skills, but they will also be
pushing themselves to capture every exciting moment of their experience at the conference.

We have designed the following events for LAPS ’18, the details of which are given further.

• Timings: 8:00am – 11:30pm
• Tentative Dates: 9th, 10th and 11th February 2018
• Maximum Number of Attendees Expected: 600 (Cap)
• Total Host Team: 120 Members.
• Total Number of Events: (10 Competitions, 1 scavenger hunt, 2 Workshops, 2 Social

Competitions
DSLR CATEGORY COMPETITION IN DETAILS:
Product Photography

Each team will be assigned a product


(products of our sponsors will be used for
this purpose). One product will be allotted to
five teams. Teams must plan, decide and
execute their own commercial advertisement
of a commercial product (provide d by our
various sponsors) through the use of
photography. The teams will then have to
make a poster advertisement for that product submitting both the poster and original pictures for
authenticity. Top 10 entries will be selected by the jury, and uploaded to our Facebook Page.
These 10 teams will then have to compete for Phase II held in the Central Courtyard in LUMS,
simultaneously. The products will be a surprise and participants will have to capture them in the
most creative way, while remaining bound in a single location.

Macro Photography

Macro Photography is producing photos of small items larger than


life size. True macro images are those that show the subject at a
1:1 to 10:1 ratio. It is a very popular form of photography due to its
easy accessibility and broad genre of photography. Teams can
capture macro shots of leaves, flowers and sluggish insects,
maintaining total control over lighting.

Event Coverage Competition

A social event will be organized, on the eve of


Day 2. The team s will have to capture the event
in the most innovative way possible. The teams
which most artistically capture the event, from
their own unique perspectives will be awarded.

Theme-based Photo Shoot

Several Photo Shoot setups will be


arranged. Teams will be given 15 minutes
to conduct their photo shoot, based on 1 of
the 5 themes provided to them previously.

Action Shoot

Set a shutter speed of 1/10 00s (or faster) to freeze


the action and render the subject in sharp focus. With
compact cameras, select the ‘sports’ mode for the
same effect. Use a continuous drive setting to take
short bursts of images – this will improve your
chances of capturing the ‘magic’ moment. E.g. birds
flying, people running etc. The idea roams around the
click of moving objects. This event will consist of 1 round which will take place on one of the 3
days. The picture needs to be captured within the boundaries of LUMS.

CELL PHONE CATEGORY COMPETITION IN DETAILS:

Selfie Story

Setting up a Selfie booth and asking participants to come up with a


simple Selfie using props and a background is too simple. To allow
them extensive use of the Selfie feature, participants will have to
come up with a Selfie story portrayed by at least 6 pictures.

Photo Scavenger Hunt

Teams, unable to reach Phase II of any competition, will report to the help desk on Day-2. They
will be acquainted with the LUMS campus and will be given a list of items to search for, around
the campus, and take pictures with. This competition will help them acquaint with one another as
a team and as a part of a larger competition.

Landscape/Panorama

It will provide the participants a chance to


hone their photography skills in bigger
prospects. It will provide the participants to
use the panorama feature of cell phones to
their best. Within a certain setting, they will
have to use the feature and come up with a
creative photo to standout.

Instagram – Boomerang

The participants will be required to use Boomerang feature of Instagram and follow the provided
themes e.g. Happy moments, Dance moves etc. The creativity will be given utmost importance in
terms of marking criteria.

Workshops/Seminars Details
These will be held to enhance the photography skills of
the participant; the techniques learned in these workshops
may or may not be directly required for upcoming LAPS
competitions, but will add to the photography skills of the
participants. Moreover, participants will get an
opportunity to meet famous photographers with
inspirational photography stories and learn various new
techniques from them.

Opening Ceremony

Delegates will be given a warm welcome with the


audience will be given a brief overview as to what
LAPS is all about and how there is a need to promote
photography and the arts in today’s day and age. There
will be a speech by our Chief Guest, the LAPS team
will be introduced, and the Conference will officially
be declared open.

Closing Ceremony

The conference will officially be declared close, and


there will be speeches given by our given by our
Chief Guest, as well as by the organizers. Winners
will be declared after the results are compiled, and
the Thematic Dinner will follow.

Concert

Photolums promises an exciting concert like


LAPS’17. The society is known for delivering
exhilarating concert and LAPS’18 social event
will be even better. Ali Sethi rocked the stage
last year and we hope to make it even bigger
this year.

Thematic Dinner

A dinner with an exhibition of the best works from each


competition will be held. It will give delegates final opportunities
to not only see the winning works, but also to interact.

Social Responsibility Program

LUMS Photography Society has been working on


‘Humans of LUMS’ for a couple of years now and it has
enabled it with vast amount of experience in the field. The
stories did not only make LUMS stand out but it showed
the other side of people of LUMS too which might not be
apparent in the society. Moving beyond its limiting
horizons, the society has aimed to move out of campus and
display the stories of Pakistan from Lahore or as it travels
across the mountains.

Humans of New York came to Pakistan and it even helped


raise donations for the local population so as the biggest
photography society of Pakistan and with reach and social
networks at our feat, it’s our duty to do more for the
society around us. The society will be taking initiatives to
reach out to different institutes of Lahore such as Rising Sun Institute and SOS Village in order
to put them out in the world. With at least 5 trips a year by the society, it also provides us with
the platform to reach out to people outside Lahore and where ordinary tourists might enjoying
the view, our team will be pursuing stories.

The society also plans to establish a fund by the


name of the program to collect funds and reach
out to those in need. With over 200,000
subscribers on Facebook and thousands on
Snapchat and Instagram, all we can see is a
bright future with a lot of prospects.

Product Photography Competition (DSLR Category)

As mentioned above, one of the competitions will require each team to do a creative photo shoot
of a product that they will be assigned at the time of Registration on Day 1 (products of our
sponsors will be used for this purpose). The teams will have to make a poster advertisement for
the product assigned, and will submit, both the poster and original pictures for authenticity. They
will be required to do a creative product advertisement through the use of photography.
