Voyager Elementary School

1. Assessments required by Voyager:

a. MSP, HSPE

b. How did students do in these assessments?

Reading: over 80% passing for both MSP & HSPE for 3rd-5th grade.

Math: over 70% passing for MSP AND HSPE for 3-5 grade

Writing: over 80% passing MSP AND HSPE for 4th grade. Scores

improved over the years.

Science: over 70% passing for 5th grade. Scores improved over the years.

2. To identify the assessments issues in that school and student academic achievements. For example, use
the assessment results to reflect on their bilingual programs.
3. To suggest the school administrators some possible solutions on the assessment
Write 1) a short paragraph of an overview of the assessments and issues you found in that school, 2) a short
paragraph of the assessment results and how it reflects on the bilingual
programs, and 3) your reflection/suggestions to the school.

2&3.

At Voyager, they have a Transitional Bilingual program, and there are 9 students

that are part of this program as of May 2016. The MSP & HSPE scores may reflect the
programs at Voyager Elementary for bilingual students. Since the test scores are shown

so high at this school, it may reflect the fact that they offer support to all kinds of

students, including programs for bilingual education, as well as special education. This is

a great program for elementary schools to have, because it provides support and a more in

depth approach to learning for bilingual students who may fall behind if they do not have

the extra support. However, maybe Voyager could provide even more programs in their

school for bilingual students coming from all different kinds of cultures. This is because

not all bilingual students are Spanish speaking students, the same way not all bilingual

students are Chinese speaking students. In order to provide further support for these

students, maybe the programs could specialize in their individual cultures and languages

to make them feel even more comfortable learning in the classroom, and taking these

standardized tests. This would reflect better scores on the MSP AND HSPE and a better

environment for ELLs at school.
