Slide 1:

Good morning. Today, it’s all how animals survive and their nutrition!
Slide 2:
First of all, let us define Nutrition. To know something, it is imperative to understand what it means first.
< Read the First Line >
How do we live ba? All organisms, be it plants, animals or humans, we live by having nutrition.
Nutrition is what we’re doing to get energy.
Basically, how we eat and get energy is called nutrition.
< Read the Second Line >
If nutrition yung pag-obtain ng important materials, nutrients naman yung inaabsorb.
Notice the words “element” and “compound”.
Basically kasi, all the nutrients that an organism absorbs can be broken down into elements (Carbon,
oxygen, hydrogen) or compounds (combinations ng elements).
There will be more about this later.
Slide 3:
We are all very familiar to this picture because all the food we eat, meron nito sa likod.
The nutrition facts that we see basically displays what nutrients are you going to get from that food.
Slide 4:
There are six classifications of nutrients. When an organism eats food, it could have carbohydrates,
proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and water.
< Read the Table >
Slide 5:
From those six classifications, it can be further be classified.
< Read the Lines >
May dalawang klase kasi ng chemical composition, they are called Organic and Inorganic.
Basically, if may carbon yung nutrient, it’s Organic!
Pag walang carbon, it’s Inorganic!
Look at the pictures below.
The one on the left have carbons, though hindi na sinusulat but they are in the corners of the heptagon,
yung parang Piattos. Therefore organic siya.
The one on the right doesn’t have carbons. Na (Sodium), O (Oxygen), and B (Boron) lang ang meron,
therefore, it’s Inorganic.
Slide 6:
Some examples nung 6 classification of nutrients are:
< Read the Lines >
Slide 7:
There there are two types of nutrition, or how an organism obtain their energy.
Autotrophs and Heterotrophs.
< Read the Lines >
Autotrophs examples ay yung mga plants, while Heterotrophs naman ay animals and humans.
Since the topic is about animals, sa heterotrophs tayo mag fofocus.
Slide 8:
Just a short Trivia..
< Read the Line and give a little moment >
Slide 9:
Yes, they are called Mixotroph. Alam niyo naman yung venus flytrap diba, carnivorous plants.
Autotroph kasi kasi nag uundergo siya ng photosynthesis, while at the same time, Heterotroph siya kasi
kumakain kasi ng bugs.
Slide 10:
Now that we know what is Nutrition and Nutrients, we discuss now how food gets into cells.
Or basically, how the nutrients from food become energy to sustain life.
< Read the First Line >
Metabolism yung tawag sa pag-process.
After eating and digesting, yung mga nutrients nung food undergoes metabolism, which are mga
chemical reactions sa cells to convert them into energy.
< Read the Second Line >
Since sobrang daming chemical reaction na nangyayari to convert the nutrients into energy, a term to
call it is metabolic pathways.
Notice the word pathways. Daanan. Ways para gawing energy yung nutrients.
Slide 11:
Look at the picture. This is metabolism in a nutshell.
Food is eaten. Food is digested. Nutrients from the food are converted into energy.
Slide 12:
Under metabolism, since general term siya sa pag-convert ng nutrients into energy are catabolism and
anabolism.
< Read All >
Catabolism yung unang mangyayari, ibebreak down niya yung nutrients from the food into smaller
pieces.
After ng catabolism is Anabolism. Yung mga simple pieces na nabreakdown ng catabolism will be
rebuilded to make energy for the organism.
A simple mnemonics I know is.. Gumawa si Ana ng something, at sinira nung Cat niya.
Catabolism – breaking down nutrients into smaller pieces.
Anabolism – making something from that smaller pieces.

< Read All >
Na mention earlier that metabolism composes of numerous reactions. Pero these are some of the
notable reactions that happens. Example, yung glycolysis, o reaction ng glucose. Glucose is sugar.
Glycolysis refers to pano cinoconvert yung sugar into energy after eating.
