-Topic #6-
“America: The Melting Pot of the World”

Directions: Please read the following information below about immigration reform as well as
using what you have learned so far from previous classes. In groups, you will be working with
other classmates to structure a persuasive argument as to persuade the congressional
committee to which bill on immigration reform should be instituted. Mr. Krogman will play the
role as the head of Congress who authorizes the final version of the federal budget.

Using this, your group (either the Democrats or Republicans) will elect one representative from
your group to orally deliver your outlined argument. After each speech, if there happens to be
questions the representative, and congress committee side will have to defend their claims if
need be.

This class will be used to thoroughly construct your oral argument along with discussing any
other questions, comments, or concerns beforehand. Next time we have class is when
everything will be presented with a brief time period to finalize any changes or additions prior.

DO NOT FOCUS SOLELY ON BULDING THE WALL, THERE IS MORE TO IMMIGRATION REFORM
THAN JUST THIS.

PLEASE READ/LOOK AT EACH OF THESE LINKS REGARDING THE THREE MAIN POINTS OF
IMMIGRATION AND HOW IT WILL AFFECT EACH SIDE’S PRESENTATION.

your persuasive argument

2. Do you support the ideas of the current administration regarding their views on
immigration? Why or why not? How would you address the concerns of people who
disagree?
3. How could the consequences of illegal/legal immigration affect the United States?
4. Do you think that DACA should be modified or repealed? Why or why not?
5. Do you think that a country such as the United States will ever be able to tackle the
issue associated with increasing immigration? Why or why not?
