The Metropolitan Literacy Council (formerly Metropolitan Reading Council)
is now taking submissions for our 2018-2019 MLC Writing Contest.
TOPIC: Unusual Friendships

CONTEST RULES
Only single author manuscripts will be judged. Your story may have no more than 2,500 words.
1. Send a legible copy of each entering student’s manuscript. (Keep originals; entries will not be
returned). Attach ONE completed entry form to each manuscript. (Entries without an entry form will
not be judged). The entry form is located on the back of this announcement. (Please duplicate as
many forms as needed).
2. Teachers are asked to submit only their “best” manuscripts for judging (maximum 5 per class).
However, teachers may send a self-addressed, stamped, 9x12 envelope with a request for blank
participation certificates to give to all students whose manuscripts were not submitted for judging.
3. Deadline: December 21, 2018. Winners will be recognized at a community gathering on March 2,
2019.
