THEORY OF STRUCTURE II 2017

PROPOSED TWO (2) - STOREY

RESIDENTIAL BUILDING

INTRODUCTION

Under the prescribe load and/or other external effects are prediction of the performance
of a given structure called Structural Analysis, such as temperature changes and support
movements. The analysis of a structure usually involves determination of those quantities as
caused by a given loading condition. The performance characteristics commonly of interest in
the design of structures such as axial forces, shear forces and bending moments and also the
deflection and the support reactions. The objective of this paper is to present the method for
analysis of structures in a static equilibrium.

The service ability checks and revised structural design, Preliminary structural design,
estimate of loads, Construction phase safety and planning phase are the phases of a typical
structural engineering project.

Chapter I: PROJECT BACKGROUND

THE PROJECT

LOCATION: 004 Sitio Puslac, Saba, Hermosa, Bataan

TOTAL FLOOR AREA: 400 m2

OCCUPANCY: RESIDENTIAL

ALL OTHER DETAILS WERE ALREADY AVAILABLE TO THE PROVIDED

ARCHITECTURAL AND OTHER PLANS.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The project aims to design a two strorey residential building:

Especially this project intends to:

a) To integrate a design principles, mechanics of deformable bodies and theory of

structures.
b) Practice of modern tools that are necessary such as MS word, Sketch up, and Auto cad in
the design process.

THE CLIENT
The client of this project is Mr/Ms Pastor, A teacher and engineer. They decided to
construct a residential house to start they own and to avoid in flood area from their former house.

PROJECT SCOPE AND DELIMITATIONS

Based from such factors there is a high scope for further research in simulation to solve
vibration, frequency response and mode shape analysis related problems. Useful future work
would be determine including the suspension, modeling infinite springs and loading
differentially through the wheel hubs instead of spring mounts. Overall recommendation is to
study the structural analysis and should be covered on the overall truck system and after the
focus on the specific area such as full body refinement and improvement because it can be
related to actual running condition.

Chapter II: DESIGN INPUTS

ARCHITECTURAL PLAN
FLOOR PLANS
The two storey residential building are made up of concrete. The first storey of
the residential building are composed of living area, kitchen, bathroom, wash area and a
dining area, the second floor of the residential building are composed of three bedrooms,
a wash room, bath room and an altar while on the roof top is an empty space for the
family celebration.

ELEVATIONS
The elevations show the different views of the building. The front elevation, right
side elevation, left side elevation, and rear side elevation of the building respectively. The
longitudinal and transverse cross sections respectively.

STRUCTURAL PLAN
The structural plan, shows the truss diagram, the typical floor, framing plan, the
column detail, the girder and beam detail respectively. And the perspective of the two
storey residential concrete building.

CHAPTER III: CONSTRAINTS &

STANDARDS
Design Constraints
The following constraints were considered on the design project:

1. Factor of Safety.

In this design, the designer will adopt the best design technology that
deliver a structural output that has a higher percentage of safety as calculated
based on the applied codes and standards, and as controlled by known parameters.
It is in a way the scale of assurance that the elements are structurally sound from
the given benchmark which is the imposed loads.

2. Strength Capacity.

The designer consider the first-order elastic analysis of the bending which
approximated the effects of full plasticity parameters of safe design as articulated
on the design standards.

3. Economic

The project are design hat will be predominantly based on the proper
selection of design technology and choice of materials that will yield a more
economical and of best quality structural output and yet fit the budgetary
considerations of the client.

Design Standard
This design project conforms to the following codes and standards and references:

 The association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines (ASEP) Steel Handbook

 The American Standards for Testing and Materials (ASTM)

For the parameters and controls of the design project the aforementioned standards are
already adopted in the National Structural Code of the Philippines which is the main reference
