Wardha is known as ³Gandhi City´ wardha district is shown on the map of
Maharashtra. The district is in the eastern part of the Maharashtra.
Boundaries: - To the east of wardha is the district of Nagpur and to its north and west is
Amaravati district. Towards the south of wardha distract are yavatmal and chandrapur
districts.
Wardha is the main river of wardha distract as water from various other river in to the
distract finally flows into the river Wardha. Hence it can be said that wardha distract is
located in the basin of the river wardha. The river wardha has its source in Madhya Pradesh.
It flows along the boundaries of Wardha and Amaravati distracts and then wends its way
along the border of yavatmal and wardha districts toward the south. Bakali, Yashoda and
vena are the main tribes of the river wardha. The second impriver in the district is vena. Bor
and pothra are the two tribes that flow into the river vena. The river kar flows to the north
along the northern boundaries of the district. It is a tributary of the river wardha.
Wardha district is far away from the sea. Hence, its climate is generally hot and dry.
The northern part of the district is a region of hills and plateaus. The rainfall increases as we
go from the west to the east. The eastern parts of the districts receive more rainfall.
In wardha distract, there are many forest in Arvi, Asti, karanja and Selu Taluka¶s.
Also some forests can be found in samudrapur taluka. Teak, dhavadar, salai, tendu, ain khair
palas (flame of the forest). Babul, behead ,neem (matrgossa) and mab (butter tree) are found
in these forest. Besides these mango bore and custard-apple are along the fruit trees that are
found here. good quality teak is found in Arvi and hingani areas Leopards wolves, jackls ,
deer and hares are some of the animals found in the forest of the district. Peacock and jaugle-
foul are amongst the birds found in the forests of the district. Bor in selu taluka has
asanctuary good for construction fuel good, gum and moh flowers are the forest produce. In
Wardha district, well water is used for drinking purpose as well as for irrigation.
In selu taluka¶s Dams have been built near dongargaon, panchdhara and Bor and from
these sources, water is supplied for agricultural purpose. The pothra project is situated at
Jhurka in sameudrapur taluka. The water from this source too is used for irrigation. The no.
of tube wells in the district is very small. The water from river Dham in pavnar is filtered and
supplied to whardha city. Similarly the water from
river vena is supplied to Hinganghat town.
Crops jowar, cotton, moong, tur, pice, groundnut etc. are the khirf crop grown in
wardha districts. The important crops of the district are jowar, cotton and tur. Cotton crops is
known as cash crops. In olden days. The cotton is known as µwhite gold¶. But earlier day,
cotton is not known as white gold. The important sabi crops grown in the districts are wheat,
grams and javas. Wheat is grown on alarge scale mainly in samudarpur, Hinganghat, wardha
and selu taluka¶s. Grams crops is growing gram are Samudarpur. Hinganghat and karanja.
Eragated crops are oranges, bananas, lemons and papayas are some of the fruit grown
in Wardha distract sugarcane is another important eragated crop. Oranges are grown mainly
Ashti, Karanja, Arvi and Wardha while Banana¶s in Selu, wardha and taluk¶s. recently
sugarcane cultivation has increase in Wardha, selu and Arvi taluka¶s.
There are number of small scale and large scale industries in Wardha districts.
Small Scale Industries: - Wardha, selu, Sindhi, Mandgaon, Hinganghat, Allipur and Arvi are
main center of the handloom industries in district. Training of hides is a small- scale industry
in Talegaon, Arvi, Rohana and Nalwadi and Vaygoan. Coarse blankets and mats are woven
at Karanja.
Large-scale Industries:- Since cotton is an impotant crop of the district there are cotton
ginning and pressing mills at Hinganhat, devil, Pulgoan, Arvi, Ashti, Karanja, selu, Shindi
and Wardha. Spinning and textile mills are located in Pulgawn and Hinganghat. There is a
sugar factory at Jamani and Bella. Jamni in Selu tluka and Bella in Hinganghat taluka. There
are oil mills in wardha. Hinganghat and Arvi and also Devali. There is asteel factory at
Bhugaon in Wardha there is tractors trolley manufacturing plant in MIDC at Wardha.
There is a chemical fertilizer plant in Pulgaon and explosive factories are located in
Hingani and Kelghaer. Ther is an industrial Estate near whardha city.
Roads and Railways are the mods of the transport in Wardha district.
Roads: - Two national highways pass through Wardha district in different direction. The
Mumbai, Calcutta national highway passes through the Northern part of the district the
Hydrabad New Delhi national highway to passes through this district and goes to Delhi via
Nagpur. Recently new- national highway sanctioning the present government is Nagpur-
Aurangabad - Mumabai highway to passé near in nearest to Wardha Pipri and Sawangi.
Railways: - The main rute of railway is Mumbai to Calcutta. These railway line passes
through the central part of Wardha district. The important station on this rout is pulgaon.
Sindhi Wardha and Sevagaram.
The Chennai- Delhi Railway line passes through this district and important stating on
these route are sevagram Hinganght, Sonegaon Wardha and Pavanar and Sindhi. Besides this
there is a railway line between Puilgaon and Arvi. Puilgaon and wardh is the railway junction
in the district. It is an important market for commercial and industrial goods and very
impotent trade center because it is situated in the center.
Important places in the district there are as. Wardha is the district headquarters it also
important railway junction on the Mumbai Calcutta and Delhi- Chennai rail route. There are
number of ginning and pressing factory located hears. A number of institutions have been
founded in wardha inspired by Mahatama ± Gandhi it chief center for crop propagating
Hindi-our national language (Rashtrabhasha prcher samiti) is located hears ³All India
gramodyog sangh´. Is located hear at dattapur wardha is Khustadham. Whardha also has a
number of educational institutions in curding medical collage, engineering collage. Pharmacy
collage and science and commerce and art collage also located hear. Industrial estate is
located on the road of sewagram.
Sewagram:-This is located about 8 km. from Wardha. Erlier known as shagaon. It comes to
be known as sewagram after Gandhiji made it his residence for some time. Now it has
becoming India¶s new pilgrimage center. The hut in which Gandhiji use to live can still be
seen and known as ³BAPU-KUTI´ there is well equipped medical collage in Sewagram and
well established Engineering collage
Pavanar:-This is situated at 6 Km away fro wardha city on wardha- Nagpur road. On the
Banks of the river dham is located the ashram of the Vinoba Bhave. There is memorial in
honor of Gandhiji this place also tourist center.
Arvi:- This is the taluka headquarters. A glass temple of the Jain are well known. Arvi is
known as cotton market. There is a school for blind at wardha maneri in Arvi taluka.
Ashti- This is the taluka headquarters. During the freedom straggle of 1942, a number of
swatyagrhis where killed near in the firing. After this incident the freedom movement
received a grate movement all over the India and Ashti become very well known. The
martyr¶s memorial erected here reminds us of our freedom struggle.
Karanja :- This is the taluka headquarters. coarse blankets and mats are woven here. It is an
educational center for in the rural region.
Pulgaon:- On the banks of river wardha. It has a cotton mill. This names Puilgaon cotton Mill
there is a defence equipments store in Pulgaon.
Hinganghat: - at the banks vena river. It is a trading center. There are cloths mills have and it
is a place of pilgrimage. There is Jain temple. This cotton mills known as Mohata cotton
mills. It is also a good Railway station and taluka headquarter.
Selu :-It is taluka headquarter. It has a large cotton market.
Samudarpur: - It is bullock trading center and taluka headquarter.
Hingani: - Located hear has an explosive factory
Jamni :- This place is close to wardha and has a sugar factory.
Bela: - It has also newly started sugar factory.

 

As per current 2001 census, the population of the Wardha district was 12,30,640. in
which population male is 6,35,751 and female is 5,94,489.In this population census the rural
population is 9,05,695 that¶s male is 4,67,526 and female 4,38,169. The urban population is
3,24,945 that¶s male 1,68225 and female is 1,56,720 is from urban population spread up to 8
talukas.
