PREFACE
The document was prepared by PT LAPI GTC under project title “Consulting Services
For Heavy Haul Route Lay down Traffic & Logistic Survey And Assessment For
RDMP Project RU-V Balikpapan“.
The work duration is 120 days, starting from August 22 nd until December 20th 2017. The
objectives of the work are to conduct site survey & assessment of carrying capacity and
improvement required of the existing bridges in the Balikpapan refinery and Lawe-lawe
terminal that will be used for the transportation of heavy equipment, and also to provide
an actual information about sea traffic and road traffic system condition from laydown
areas outside refinery and public import container terminals and break bulk terminals to
Balikpapan Site and Lawe-Lawe. These will be done by field survey work and desk
study analysis prepared by engineering experts.
This interim report presents details of background, concepts, objectives, result of field
and laboratory testing.

Before starting with inspection process and showing the laboratory results,
similar perception on structural improvement steps should be define clearly.
Deteriorated of any kind of structure should be improved after several intense
study as graphycally shown in Figure 1.1.
In order to analyze structure, a study on existing structure is a must.
Geometric of global structure, section properties, and material properties will be
needed including all deterioration occured.
Several test such as rebar scang, corrosion rate, Pundit (UPV), metal
thickness, metal hardness, chloride and sulphate content has been conducted
to construction jetty for further analysis.

It should be noted that most of the result are not gathered yet, since tim will be junst
finishing all tests on Saturday 27 October 2017.
Structural dimension is needed for structural analysis and the result is given in Figure
1.2. In measuring the construction jetty, it was based on drawings given by PT.
Pertamina. As shown in Figure 6.1 the slab surface is identified by grid. Numbering
system is given for longitudinal, while letter system for the perpindicular direction.
With this sytem was will be easier to identify an element for further strengthening or
improvement. This work has been done on September 2017 which was the first day
team has a permit. Redrawing of construction jetty as the result of visual inspection
has been completed.

Dynamic test was done by jumping car, however since there was a ship berhing at the
jetty, both data as a result of external load from juming car and the ship was recorded
for further analysis.
A total of 26 core drill samples 70 mm in diamater were taken from the jetty to be
tested in the Laboratory B4T (Balai Besar Bahan dan Barang Teknik). A sample of
concrete core drill is given in Figure 1.3 while the complete pictures and data is given
in annexes.

1.4 Carbonation
Carbonation was tested by spraying a concrete core with phenlophtalein and most of
the samples showed color meaning that the concrete in good quality, Figure 1.4.

Samples for chloride and sulphate content were taken by using handbor. Powder
weigh of 2 gram from 20mm, 40mm, and 60mm depth is in the Chemical laboratory of
B4T, Figure 1.5.

UPV test has been done very close to the drilled concrete for the purposes of
comparison with other test, such as rebound hammer and concrete
compression test.
