Senior Mining Engineer

Location – Toronto, ON

Summary of Role

The Senior Mining Engineer is an integral member of the corporate mine technical
services team and will collaborate with the site teams to assist in the development of the
client’s new mines.

Key Responsibilities

 Optimize and maintain the long-range mine plan


 Provide mine development support for new mine project
 Provide technical support for continued improvement initiatives for the existing
operation
 Assist in and/or conduct feasibility and engineering studies
 Valuation of potential M&A acquisitions

Required Skills & Experience

 A degree in Mining Engineering with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in open


pit mining
 Proven strong background in mine planning
 Practical experience in open pit operations
 Strong communication skills in English; French an asset
 Technical mine planning skills working with mine planning and CAD packages
(e.g. Minesched, Vulcan, Surpac, Minesight etc.)
 Strategic mine planning working with pit optimization tools
 Ability to effectively collaborate with others across the organization and build
strong relationships
 Ability to plan, organize work, and make decisions to achieve specific goals and
company objectives
 Results driven; strives for excellence in efficiency and performance
 Demonstrates an open, transparent and effective communication style
 Displays integrity and is accountable for actions and statements
 Exhibits respect and mutual trust in all working relationships
 Ability to interact effectively with various people including those with challenges,
special needs or disabilities

Working Conditions

 Ability to travel to overseas operations when required (approximately 25%), at


times for extended periods of time

Our Vancouver office is currently looking for an experienced Mining Engineer
specializing in open pit and/or underground mine design, waste rock dump design and
familiarity with NI 43-101 Technical reporting and studies. We are looking for a bright,
positive individual to join a world-class team of engineers, scientists, and technologists
working on all size of projects. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team
providing mining engineering services to a wide variety of clients.
Responsibilities

 Provide mine engineering services with respect to mine design and mine waste
for mine projects and facilities;
 Carry out analytical and design functions for projects at stages ranging from
Scoping and Feasibility studies through Detailed Engineering and Construction to
Closure and Reclamation;
 Provide hands-on project management for projects according to client-approved
scopes of work;
 Prepare and deliver high quality deliverables and reports on time and within
budget; and
 Mentoring, training, and developing internal resources.
 A minimum of 7 years of relevant mine engineering experience;
 A Qualified Person (QP) for mine engineering in accordance with NI 43-101;
 Experience in problem solving with industry standard commercial computer
software including AutoCAD, MS Office, and mining software such as Geovia
Gems, Whittle, Surpac, or Leapfrog
 Proven capabilities in mine planning, financial analysis, due diligence reviews, and
technical writing;
 Proven capabilities working productively in project teams;
 Registration or eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer in the Province of
British Columbia;
 Preference will be given to candidates with both underground and surface mining
experience;
 Understanding and exposure to regulatory bodies with respect to mine closure
planning and permitting;
 Domestic and International travel as required by project requirements (up to 20%
of available time)
 Must possess a valid British Columbia Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent)

The Pend Oreille Mine, located in Metaline Falls, Washington, is currently seeking an
individual in the role of:

Senior Mining Engineer/Geotechnical Engineer

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, the successful candidate must


possess a strong working knowledge of mining engineering in the underground mining
environment as well as proven effective leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

 Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental


rules and procedures
 Improve ground control and rock behavior understanding at the Pend Oreille
Mine
 Coordinate outside consulting expertise, as necessary and provide geotechnical
advice and direction to the engineering, geology, planning and operating groups
 Prepare detailed design and execution planning for primary and secondary
mining, including stakeholder review and endorsement of developed plans
 Review and endorse production mining designs as well as related drill and blast
designs
 Oversee the maintenance, updating and calibration of the underground
ventilation model as well as the underground evacuation and emergency
response plan, as required by MSHA CFR 30
 Scope and lead underground study and options assessments, including but not
limited to equipment, mine plan sequencing, and mine dewatering, etc.
 Lead and perform underground options studies (i.e. property evaluation, satellite
deposit development, etc.)
 Work with Mine Operations and Maintenance Teams to optimally locate utilities
to meet long-range plan requirements, including maintenance of utility records
(i.e. location maps)
 Develop and lead special underground and surface projects
 As required, develop specifications and justifications for new equipment
 Supervise, mentor and train junior staff

Qualifications:

 Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, or closely related discipline


 Minimum of a 15 years professional underground mining engineering experience
in an underground environment
 Intimate knowledge and proven experience in rock mechanics and providing
geotechnical guidance for ground support in primary and secondary (retreat)
working areas
 Experience with room and pillar as well as remnant underground mining
 Proven experience in all aspects of underground mine engineering including,
design, scheduling, drilling and blasting, structural geology, ventilation,
dewatering/pumping, power systems, surveying, reserve and resource
development and reporting, etc.
 Proficient in relevant software programs (i.e. Microsoft Office products, AutoCAD,
MineSight or Vulcan, etc.)
 Strong results oriented focus and analytical skills are essential
 Strong mentoring and leadership skills
 Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
 Motivated self-starter with the ability to multi-task and who can deliver
extraordinary value to the operation
