INTERPRETATIVE DANCE COMPETITION MECHANICS

1. The competition is open to all College departments and Basic Education department.
2. Each participating department can submit only one (1) entry.
3. There shall be a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 15 performers. This number includes
the other personalities who shall be on stage during the performance (e.g. props men,
etc.)
4. Each entry will use the “BAGONG UMAGA” as the only song to be interpreted or
enacted provided by the Tournament Manager.
5. Narration is strictly not allowed. This competition is designed for each entry to tell a
story revolving around the theme through dancing.
6. No dangerous props/stunts allowed.
7. The performance shall not exceed seven (7) minutes but not less than three (3) minutes,
this includes the actual performance, entrance and exit of dancers, setting up of props
(if any) and the like.
8. For this allotted time of 7 minutes, each department is free to delete, cut, insert and
jumble the songs chosen.
9. Any time in excess of the allowed performance time shall be penalized by deducting
point/s from all of the judges’ scores in his manner:
1 – 10 seconds – 1 percentage point
11 – 30 seconds – 2 percentage points
31 – 60 seconds – 3 percentage points
61 – 90 seconds – 4 percentage points
91 – 120 seconds - 5 percentage points

10. Criteria for judging are as follows:


Concept and Interpretation - 40%
Choreography and Execution - 30%
Costume - 10%
Stage presence - 20%
TOTAL 100%

11. Failure to submit entry/send participants in each department will result to penalty to
disqualification.
12. CD music/USB and entry forms must be submitted not later than a day before the
contest. Delay in submitting the said requirements will result to deduction of points.
Sequence order shall be by draw lots to be done before the competition proper.
Punctuality is strictly observed.
13. The decision of the judges is final and irrevocable.
14. You can ask the Entry Form at Sports Coordinators Office and submit it to Sir
Rogelio Luzura on or before September 14, 2018.

DETAILES FOR CRITERIA OF JUDGING:


A. CONCEPT AND INTERPRETATION. – 40%
1. Variety of dance positions, dance movements, and/or combinations as appropriate to
the specific dance.
2. Difficulty of dance movements and/or combinations from one dance position or
alignment to another.
3. Relevance to the theme of the competition.
4. Uniqueness or originality of dance movements and/or combinations from one dance
position or alignment to another, to include presentation of dance position.
5. Continuity of dance movements and/or combinations to either interpret dance theme
and music, or to demonstrate dance control. This refers to exceptional phrasing which
includes spontaneous adjustments of dance pattern for irregularly phrased musical
selections.

B. CHOREOGRAPHY AND EXECUTION. – 30%


1. Basic pattern, rhythm, timing, and initial phrasing between partners and to the selected
music. For correctly phrased musical selections, phrasing may be shifted for
momentary variation, but generally should be maintained throughout the specific dance.
2. Proper performance of footwork, hand, head, arm, and body movements through dance
variations; to include balance and centering through executed movements.
3. Alignment, framework, and proper presentation of dance positions; to include
smoothness of follow–through from movement into position; to demonstrate properly
initiated lead and follow technique from position into movement.

C. STAGE PRESENCE – 20%


1. Artistic interpretation and choreography projected through dance movement as it relates
to the selected music and the specified dance category.
2. Attentiveness, enthusiasm, enjoyment of the dance, and general good partnership as
perceived through appropriate presentation of lead and follow roles.
3. Flair and accent of dance movement, generating an atmosphere and instilling a mood
appropriate to the specific dance category.

D. COSTUME – 10%
1. Costume suited for the concept and theme.
