1.Objective of the project


. Theoritical Backgroud

A.Meaning of Junk Food

Junk food simply means empty calorie food. An emptycalorie food is


a high calorie or calorie rich food which lack in micronutrients such as
vitamins, minerals, or amino acids, and fiber but has high energy
(calories)

‘’Junk food’’ is an informal term applied to some foods which are


perceived to have little or no nutritional value, but which also have
ingredients considered unhealthy when eaten regularly , or to those
considred unhealthy to consumen at all. What make these food to be
called as ‘junk’ is that it contains high levels of refined sugar, salt, and
numerous food additives such as monosodium glutamate and tartrazine at
the sasme time, it is lacking in proteins, vitamins, essential minerals,
fiber, among other healthy attributes. A food that is higt in fat, sodium,
and/or sugar and provides high calories yet useless in value is generally
known as a junk food

B.Types of Junk Food

Junk foods are rich in calories, salt and fats. Excess consumption of junk foods
leads rise to wide variety of health disorders. School canteens are offering foods high in fat
and sugar which actually contributin to the youth weight gain along with other problems like
infections, food poisonings and dental diseases. Consuming junk foods might stop the
children from taking healthy meals either at school or at home. The practice of high
consumption of junk foods like maggi noodles, burgers, pao-bhaji, sandwiches, hot dogs,
patties, pastries, pop-corn, potato chips, carbonated drinks, biscuits, muffins, toast, kulcha-
channa, samosa, chocolates etc have become common feature of adolescent’s diet throughout
the world.. They frequently over consume fast foods and under consume fruits, vegetables
and dairy products. According to WHO, in India, more than 3 per cent of the population is in
the obese category. Obesity is an emerging major public health problem throughout the world
among adolescents. It is one of the most effective tool of changing the food habits without
affecting their sentiments. Nutrition counseling regarding the importance of balanced diet,
harmful effects of junk foods will help to curb the junk food addiction and improving their
nutritional status. Iit should be suggested that there is a need to focus on nutrition counseling
to facilitate the intake of healthy junk foods like fermented foods, wheat noodles by adding
lots of vegetables, sprouted pulses, sprouted tikki, vegetable samosa & cutlets, wheat and
multigrain bread.

C. Influencing factors for consuming junk food

Today world has been adapted to a system of consumption of foods which has several
adverse effects on health. Lifestyle changes has compelled us so much that one has so little
time to really think what we are eating is right! Globalisation and urbanisation have greatly
affected one.s eating habits and forced many people to consume fancy and high calorie fast
foods, popularly known as .Junk foods..

D. Consequence and Impact

Diseases like coronary artery disease and diabetes mellitus have seen a profound rise in
developing countries and such unhealthy junk food consumption is one of the notable factors
to its contribution.

E.Solution

Used alongside rehydration therapy, probiotics seem to be safe and


have clear beneficial effects in shortening the duration and reducing stool
frequency in acute infectious diarrhea. Of notice, among the probiotics,
most widely tested with consistent favorable result are Lactobacillus.
Probiotics were efficaious in reducing the rise of diarrhea.

F.APPEALING NATURE OF JUNK FOOD


Junk food comprises of anything that is quick, tasty, convenient and fashionable.
Clever junk food advertising and the lure of convenience in addition to taste drag people to
junk food addiction. Following factors generally makes it appealing:
1. Time factor: Junk food addiction is so high because of its simplicity.
They are easy to prepare and ready to consume within no time.
2. Taste factor: Great taste also, is anotherimportant reason to an extent that influences to
opt for junk food. This taste is achieved owing to lavish usage of oils, salts and/or
sugar.
3. Attractiveness: Packing of such foods has very attractive appearance by adding food
additives and colours in addition to enhancement in flavour.
4. Ad factor: Advertising [5] has a major role in attracting the
public,particularl children and adolescents [6] to the junk food
selling joints.

This project will be conducted in public place ex; Car Free Day at
Jl.ijen malang
