properties satisfying the material standard requirements, shall be checked and be
recorded for casings, shafts and impellers.

Non-Destructive Examination (NDE)

Non-destructive examination (NDE) shall be carried out as required in APPENDIX-J.
The followings are also required for repairs of the pressure-retaining castings:

(1) Standard procedures for casting repairs shall be submitted to

Purchaser for his approval prior to starting the casting work.
(2) Unacceptable imperfections shall be removed and their complete
removal shall be verified by additional examination.
(3) All the finished surfaces by repair welding shall be inspected
according to the same quality standard which is applied to inspection of
the casting.
(4) The casting defect, which corresponds to any items of the
following, shall be regarded as a major defect.
a) Having leaked during hydrostatic test due to the defects.
b) The depth of any cavity prepared for repair welding exceeds 20 %
of the wall thickness or 25 mm, whichever is smaller.
c) Any cavity prepared for welding is greater than approx. 6500 mm2
{10 in2} in area.
As for the major defects, defect and repair maps shall be prepared
and be submitted to Purchaser for his review prior to starting the
repair work. On this map, the extent and location of the defect and
details of the repair procedure shall be indicated.
(5) Welding repairs of major defects for pressure-retaining castings
shall be stress relieved, heat-treated after the welding and shall be
radiography tested.

Visual and Dimensional Inspection

Each pressure-retaining casting shall be subjected to visual inspection for all

surfaces, and shall be free from adhering sand, scale, cracks, hot tears or
other similar casting defects in accordance with the standard MSS-SP-55.
Machined surfaces of nozzle flanges shall be visually inspected to confirm no
harmful defects.
The following items shall be inspected in accordance with the drawings approved by
Purchaser and the results shall be recorded:

(1) Running clearances

(2) Rotational direction of pumps, gear units and drivers
(3) Basic outline dimensions for major external piping connections
(1) Major dimensions of baseplates and location of anchor bolt holes
(Tolerance for any distance between anchor bolt holes shall be 3 mm)
(4) Auxiliary piping arrangement
(5) All nameplates

Hydrostatic Tests

All pressure containing parts including casings, stuffing boxes, seal-end plate,
cooling/heating jackets and auxiliary piping shall be hydrostatically tested with liquid
at a minimum of 1.5 times the maximum allowable working pressure. The hydrostatic
test shall be considered satisfactory when neither leaks nor seepage through the
casing or casing joint is observed for at least 30 minutes.

Performance Test
Contract seals and bearings shall be used in the pump for the performance test.
Performance test shall include one hour continuous running for mechanical checks.
The mechanical checks for vibration, bearing housing temperature, and
seal leakage shall be carried out after the bearing temperatures have been
approximately stabilized.
The Vendor shall take test data, including head, capacity, and power at a minimum
of five points. These points will normally be (a) shutoff, (b) minimum
continuous stable flow, (c) midway between minimum and rated flow, (d) of
rated flow, and (e) maximum allowable flow (as a minimum, 120% of rated
flow).
The vendor shall also take the vibration data for the points of (b), (c) and (d) defined
above. The vibration level at the rated point (d) shall be within the limit given
in par. 2.16.4 in this specification. The vibration at other points, which are

often anticipated rather greater than the rated point, shall be checked for
reference.
NPSHR Test shall be performed when the difference between NPSHR and NPSHA
is less than 1.0 m. The test points shall be same as the performance test
but excludes shutoff.
If it is necessary to dismantle a pump after the performance test for the sole purpose
of machining impellers to meet the tolerances for differential head, no retest
will be required unless the reduction in diameter exceeds 5 percent of the
original diameter. If it is necessary to dismantle a pump for some other
correction such as improvement of power or NPSHR, the pumps shall be
retested after the correction is made.
Vendor shall maintain a complete log of all final tests and shall submit the copies of
data to Purchaser. The data shall include test curves and a summary of test
performance data compared to guarantee points.
Gear units which are not tested together with the pumps shall be running tested by
the gear unit supplier in their shop. During the test, the gear unit shall be
checked for vibration, bearing temperature, sound level, tooth contact and
overall mechanical checking, under the specified maximum continuous
speed.
