GROUND RULES

GUIDELINES
1. The competition will be held on September 16, 2018 (8:30 AM) at the Digos City
Gymnasium.
2. Each participating team is entitled to enter only one (1) official group composed of
exactly 20-35 eligible performers, male and female (dancers) including props men.
Five points shall be deducted from the final score of each participating team for every
lack or excess of 1 student. (1 student = 5 points deduction)
3. All performers must consist both male and female and bonafide enrolled student of
the team they represent.
4. The entire duration of the performance must not be less than eight (8) minutes and
must not exceed to twelve (12) minutes, excluding two (2) minutes pre-setting and
one (1) minute exit/pack-up and clean up. Time will start at the first organized word,
movement or note of music by the team after they are officially announced and have
taken the floor. The routine must begin within the marked performance area. All
team members must come to a complete stand still before beginning their routine.
One (1) point shall be deducted from the final score of each participating team for
every 30 seconds excess of the allocated 12 minutes for the performance (1-30
seconds = 1-point deduction; 31-60 seconds = another 1 point deduction).
5. Cheers/chants must be yelled by the dancers live (not pre-recorded). Chants may
also be used with music or during musical routine. No voice-overs or words may be
recorded to make the team vocal projection sound louder.
6. Routines may be accompanied by canned music and/or a band. A representative of
the team is responsible to play, pause and stop the music in appropriate times during
the routine.
7. Teams with performance music written on a CD must submit their CD to the Overall
Chairperson (Cheerdance Competition) on or before September 16, 2018. Failure to
do so, the team will get 5 points deduction in the final score. The CD’s must be clearly
labeled with the name of the team.
8. Routines must be appropriate for family viewing. Any vulgar or offensive and foul
words or music may result to disqualification. Uniforms must also be decent.
9. Pyrotechnics and other similar dangerous or hazardous props are strictly prohibited.
There is a limit of 2 hand-held “safe props” to be used by the performers (ex.
Pompoms, flaglets, placards, etc.) plus 1 banner.
10. Execution of partner stunts or all types of stunts with lifting, mounting, pyramids and
tosses (e.g.basket tosses) will result in automatic disqualification.
11. In the event of any injury, music and technical errors or any other unexpected event,
the head judge reserves the right to stop the routine. The team may perform their
routine from the beginning. However, judging and timing will resume from the point at
which interruption occurred as determined by the judges.

3. A pair shall dance the following Latin Dances: CHA-CHA-CHA, RUMBA and
JIVE
4. A pair shall have their own music for the individual; the committee shall provide
the music for the mass dance.
5. A pair shall wear a decent dancesport costume. Revealing too much skin is
prohibited.

A. Qualifications
a. Each year level must have a pair, male and female as representatives
for Mr. and Ms. Intramurals who:
i. Are bona fide students of Matti National High School.
ii. Are single and not more than 20 years old this year.
iii. Have not won any major title except for runners up.
iv. Are able to attend all scheduled activities or rehearsals.
B. Pageant Mechanics
a. Talent Portion
i. Performance must be within three and a half minutes (3:30mins)
only. Timer starts with the first sound, or action in the talent. A
bell will ring two times; 1 st – 15secs before the time and 2 nd –
end of the time duration. 1 point will be deducted in every 1min
excess of the performance.
ii. Representatives from each year level may perform as one pair.
iii. Entrance and exit will be given 1 min each.
iv. Fire, water, deadly weapons and other dangerous and other
explicitly offending objects are not allowed as props.
b. Production Wear
i. Creative denim with its corresponding top will be the motif of the
entire production number.
c. Sports Attire
i. All types of sportswear are allowed with the inclusion of
appropriate props intended for the respective sports.
d. Long Gown and Formal Attire
i. All types of long gown (female) and formal attire (male) are
allowed to be worn so long as they do not show malicious views
(showing contestants’ private parts).
e. Uniform
i. The official uniform of Matti National High School will be worn
during this portion.
Note: After the scores from all portions have been tabulated, all
contestants shall move on to the final round of the competition where
scores will be back to zero. A common question will be asked to all
finalists.
