Discussion

Theoretically, a plasma is a form of structures and properties of matter. For example, its matter
are the solid, liquid or gas. The molecules of the particle will vibrate move itself due to heat is
add into the material. The molecules will start to vibrate more violently at their position when
heating is adding to the solid. Then, solid will condense and turn into the liquid. The molecule
of the liquid will move randomly and collide between particles themselves. After the heat is
supply over and over, the particles will move vigorously as they collide each other, then it form
a gas molecule. The plasma will produce when the gas molecule is supply to the heat as it can
cause the energy to be increase for molecules collide energetically each other. And thus it
correlated to CNC plasma machine.

Throughout this experiment, the cutting strategy can be analysed. There are several cutting
strategy involved like cut direction, cut order, lead in or lead out. For the first two cutting
strategies, it can be shown from the G-code produced. Cut direction is like a route of the travel
the plasma torch. The direction of travel is faced by the side of the cut, which means the finish
part of the plasma. The design software or CAD software controlled the cut order method where
the priority of this method must to be for hole. The hole must be cut at first from other shape.
Lead in or lead out is a method that employed for getting the torch to begin and stop from cease
the finishing piece.

During cutting process, students must wear glasses to avoid exposure from fire splash from
torch. For the product (sprocket) produced, there are some finishing that need to be done.
Because of the higher temperature, the product needed to be cooled first before the finishing
process settled. Hammer is used to discard the excessive scrap on product. The sharp edges
must be blunt to avoid any injuries when using them.

For the drawing, the drawing has shape clearly like a sprocket. After the cutting process, this
process has achieved its goal when the shape of the product has the same shape with the desired
2-D drawing. The number of serration in the drawing match the serration number on the product
which is they both have 23 serration. They also consist of same number of hole which is five
holes rotate circularly around one big hole in the middle. Although the product have some
rough edge at the hole, further finishing process like grinding or others will help the product
match exactly like the 2-D drawing sprocket shape.
