 SENARIO

Barloworld motors Botswana is a company which specializes on selling new, used and demo cars to its
customers. When the company started, Microsoft Excel is used as a management system to store all the
details about the cars, employees, customers, orders and any other information which is relevant and useful
to the progress of the company. As the data in the company increased the company considers using a Oracle
12c relational management system to store and manage data. As a learner in Database Management with
Oracle, you have been called for an interview in which you are expected to implement, administer and
manage the company database to enable smooth operation of the company. You are expected to create
Employees and Customer tables, applying the necessary constraints to the table fields.

The database name should have the last four digits of your student id prefixed to it. You are also expected to
show screenshots of all the activities that you perform, neatly presented with clear explanations in the word
document.

Question 1

Create username accounts for Ratwang and Modise who are additional administrators of the database
system. Each of these users should access a user defined tablespaces where they will store their tables.
Ratwang currently manages the employees table. Using her account create this table with all the necessary
constraints. (10 marks)

Question 2

Modise also as a database administrator, He has been given the task to give a report related to the
employees of the company. However Modise is unable to perform his task because he does not have this
information in the Oracle database. To perform this Ratwang needs to migrate the employee table to his
own schema. Assign Ratwang and Modise the roles to perform this task and migrate employee table.

Question 3

Modise’s Manager gave him a task to move hundreds of employee data from the excel sheet into the
database, without deleting the already existing data. Demonstrate how this task can be accomplished.

As a precautionary measure, you are expected to perform regular backup using oracle recovery tool to
secure the company data. Demonstrate how this task is performed.

The company lost its data from the database due to a virus that attacked their system. Using the backup
files you have, perform database recovery.

a) In Details, describe a control file and its uses. Explain the parameters found within this file

b) Explain why it is necessary to have user accounts. Describe various authentication methods

which can be used to allow users access to the database. (250 words)

Project Guidelines:

To complete the above tasks you are expected to demonstrate your knowledge to research and properly reference
the sources. For each source used, in-text referencing should also be used. You are recommended to use Harvard
Referencing Style. All the questions are supposed to be answered. Neat pictures or diagrams must be produced with
proper labelling and explanations wherever applicable. The minimum word limit for the submission is 1200 and it is
not limited to it. You can give proper and neat explanation using your writing skills. The word limit specified does
not include the Table of Contents, Labelling, Appendices and Reference.

Plagiarism:

The strength of the university depends on academic and personal integrity. In this course, you must be
honest and truthful. Plagiarism is the use of someone else’s work, words, or ideas as if they were your
own. Here are three reasons not to do it:

By far the deepest consequence of plagiarizing is the detriment to your intellectual and moral development: you
won’t learn anything, and your ethics will be corrupted. Giving credit where it’s due but adding your own
reflection will get you higher grades than putting your name on someone else’s work.

The most common penalty is suspension from the university, but students caught plagiarizing are also subject to
lowered or failing grades as well as the possibility of expulsion. Please be sure to review theUniversity’s Academic
Integrity Policy.

The plagiarized sections will not be marked and the plagiarism level will be decided by the evaluators own
discretion.

 Submission of the Project has to follow the below mentioned criteria’s:

This Project has to be prepared by the students individually and submitted.

The Project should be submitted to the University’s Turnitin account created for the student.

The deadline for the submission should be followed and has to be checked with the Turnitin accounts will be

available in Turnitin 15 days before the submission.

If the plagiarism % is high, then you can make corrections until the submission deadline.
