In South Africa alone, 4.3% of the South African population is disabled.

With acknowledgment
of the current unemployment rate of 27.7% In which among young people aged 15–34 was
38,2%, implying that more than one in every three young people in the labour force did not
have a job in the first quarter of 2018 and this includes people with disability. People with
disabilities find it more difficult to secure employment. The main reasons for youth
unemployment are fairly similar to other causes of unemployment. They include factors as
Lack of qualifications, Geographical Unemployment, Real Wage Unemployment, Lack of
graduate jobs, Cyclical Unemployment, Frictional unemployment, Cultural/social factors,
Underground economy and Hysteresis.

UNESCO estimates that there is a high rate of children with disabilities in developing countries
do not attend school. Not receiving the skills and qualifications to function in the wider society
limits the employment opportunities for youth with disabilities, when an opportunity of a job is
present employers look at the skills, which they do not have.

When the general factors are put at side such as education, the consideration of people with
disabilities people does not change much. Unemployment rates for people with disabilities still
high and they suffer more than people without disabilities do to find a job. For example, two
young men who are looking for a job, the first young man has a physical disability and got the
necessary skills than the second man without physical disability; presenting their curriculum
vitae to a company, where none of them specify his physical ability. The day of the interview
comes the young with a disability is quickly labeled unemployable and he will be put aside
despite, he has the better requirement of the job. This is only influenced by the negative
perceptions of youth with disabilities and misconceptions held by employers that they are less
productive than their peers are and require too much assistance. Employers have advanced
reasons such as they will be some serious strain on the working day of a person with
disabilities, People with disabilities need expensive equipment; People with disabilities are
always absent due to their disabilities and People with disabilities usually require extra help.
Furthermore, the inability to provide reasonable accommodation at the workplace also brings
about some serious challenges to persons with disabilities. For example, a blind person who
is hired requires special resources, tools, and equipment to work optimally. Challenges can
be identified as accessibility to job opportunities, promotions, information. By considering at
all those factors, people with disabilities got a problem to even be integrated into the society
which is a barrier to them to even looking for employment. Most of them did not choose to be
in that position, they were born with disabilities and the society needs to integrate them and
consider them as any other human being because everybody should be treated equally.
