Ohrigstad before the the farmers from the north and south of the town tackled each other in a sort of no

Loyalty recognised at DCM
T
he value of loyalty and dedica on was
recognised at Dwarsrivier Chrome
Mine’s (DCM) Long Service Awards
Func on last week, 11 October 2018.
A total of 89 employees were recognised
for their contribu on towards the success of
the company. The func on was marked by
glitz and glamour as the workforce changed
into red carpet a re to receive amongst
others, a cer ficate and special gi for their
loyalty towards DCM. The evening empha-
sised the values of teamwork and a posi ve
a tude. The importance of the evening
was underlined as many of the company
shareholders and representa ves of the
board a ended. Also in a endance were
employees from Assore’s head office, DCM
leadership team, supervisors and the partners
of employees receiving awards.
Mr Rian Burger, DCM General Manager,
praised employees for their dedica on and
loyalty in a me where people o en feel the
need to move between companies. He also
gave them a message to not forget how they
got to where they are - to appreciate the sup-
port and value of a team. “Do not just look in
the mirror when receiving an award, look out
the window to see all the people who made
a difference in se ng you on the path to
success,” he explained.

local municicipality does try and improve the situation with
more new skips.. We saw these ones in this week. We do
not know for how long it just stood there, bute later in the
week saw that some of them were moved to new locations.

CASA calls for action against illegal gambling

CASA, the body that represents the interests of South Africa’s legal casino gambling industry,
as well as the public it serves, has noted an alarming increase in illegal gambling. It warns
that if immediate action is not taken to stamp out these criminal activities, the negative impact
on the economy, and society in general, could be far reaching.
As CASA’s Chief Executive Officer, Adv. Themba Ngobese explains, “Not nearly enough
is being done to combat illegal gambling. There are laws in place but they are meaningless
without a firm and consistent commitment to enforce them. Unfortunately, there will always
be people who believe that illegal gambling and illegal casino activities are somehow victim-
less crimes but nothing could be further from the truth.”
Ngobese elaborates by explaining that illegal gambling operations are eroding the
revenues of licensed casinos and thereby negatively impacting everything from job security,
corporate social investment budgets to their ability to support the economy through taxes.
Licensed casinos currently pay a massive portion (around 36%) of the value that they gen-
erate to the state through various local, provincial and national taxes and levies, and even a
small percentage decrease in revenues can result in dire consequences for a treasury that is
already under pressure.
“In the year ended March 2017, our members experienced losses in revenue of almost
2%, attributable in large part to aggressive illegal gambling activities. That may not sound like
much but for an industry that contributes almost R6 billion in taxes and levies, a few per-
cent points can have a massive knock on effect,” says Ngobese.
Ngobese implores Government to step up with a deliberate and concerted effort to enforce
its laws to protect the regulated gambling industry and the public.

pageant in Kempton Park last Saturday.

Academy and she aspires to empower other
young girls.

celebrated at Maelebe Primary School.
“Every teacher and leader needs motiva-
tion from time to time and deserve to be
acknowledged,” said Reverend T. Ndlovu
who is the youth coach at the school.
Teachers are also often victims of bullies,
they become discouraged, are looked
down upon, blamed for various things and
are vulnerable to depression.
The educators were encouraged to keep
up their hard work with enthusiasm.
Ndlovu delivered a mes-
sage that God can be
trusted while we are under
pressure.
The event was conclud-
ed with fellowship and
refreshments.

Noord teen suid Verlede Saterdag het die tradisionele

Noord-Suid krieketwedstryd tussen die
boere van die noorde en die boere van
die suide van die Ohrigstad vallei by
Laerskool Ohrigstad plaasgevind. Suid-
span het eerste gekolf. Hulle het 154
lopies aangeteken in die toegelate 30
boulbeurte.
Dit was ‘n naelbyt einde waar die Noord-
span 23 lopies van die laaste boulbeurt
moes kry om te wen. Die wedstryd is bek-
link in die guns van die Noordspan met 3
sesse en 2 balle oor in die beurt.
Die dag het ook ‘n potjiekoskompetisie
ingesluit en spanne het selfs volgens hul
tema aangetrek. Die Boerevereeniging
het almal bedank wat die dag ondersteun
het.

‘n Feestelike atmosfeer en kompetisie in
goeie gees was deel van die dag wat vir
die hele gesin bedoel was.
The Burgersfort Mastera had a busy weekend as they participated
in a top 16 tournament at Ledingwe Ga-Phasha Selatole.
The team controlled the first half of the game against Spain and
led 1-0 at half time. In the second half they doubled their lead, but
after 25 minutes Spain came back very strong and managed to
score 4 goals.
Burgersfort Masters lost the game 4-2.

Ohrigstad Boerevereniging golfdag
Ohrigstad Boerevereeniging het hierdie week
Woensdag hul jaarlikse golfdag gehou.
Dit is nes verlede jaar by die Lydenburg Golfbaan
aangebied en die dag is baie goed ondersteun.
‘n Totaal van 124 spelers het deelgeneem en
daar was groot pret tussen die spanne en spelers
op die baan.
Die deelnemers was nie net boere van die vallei
nie, maar ook persone van ander industrie ver-
wante besighede en verskaffers.

Die jaarlikse golfdag is nie net ‘n belan-

grike netwerk geleentheid vir die boere
en ander rolspelers nie, maar samel ook
geld in om die aktiwiteite van die boerev-
ereeniging moontlik te maak. Die baan
het ‘n klomp
uitstallings gehad
van verskillende
verskaffers.
