The ACS 1000 User’s Manuals (3BHS102768 up to revision E, 3BHS111248 up to revision A) contain
information on the water cooling system in the following sections:
• Chapter 3.3 Cooling System
• Chapter 6.3 Mechanical Installation
• Chapter 9.5 Maintaining the Water-Cooling System
The Signal and Parameter Table provides information in following parameter groups:
• Group 04, Actual Signals (I/O-Values Basic IOEC1 & IOEC2)

Air-cooling Circuit
A fan circulates air in a closed circuit inside the drive enclosure. The air is passing an air-to-water heat
exchanger which transfers the power looses dissipated into the cabinet air to the raw water.
The internal-air temperature is supervised.

Note: Tap water of good quality must be used in the internal cooling circuit.
However, it is recommended to fill the circuit with deionized water to extend the
lifetime of the ion exchange resin.

The temperature difference (delta T) between water inlet and outlet can be calculated according to
following formula:
delta T = P / c * Q P = heat losses (kW)
Q = flow rate (l/s)
c = 4.18 kJ / (K * l) at a water density of 1
for water without additives (such as glycol)
Example:
Q = 150 l/min = 2.5 l/s
P = 40 kW
delta T = 40 kW / [4.18 kWs / (K * l) * 2.5 l/s]
= 3.8 K

Connector Details
One end of each hose is fastened inside the cooling unit to the hose connector for the raw water inlet
and raw water outlet and shall be fixed with appropriate clamps. Four clamps are delivered with the drive
as a loose item.
Hose Entry
The ACS 1000 cabinet provides top and bottom entry as standard as illustrated in Figure 2-5 and
Figure 2-6. Modifications for side entry can be made by the customer on site or by the factory on
request. For dimensions see
Chapter 7 Appendices, drawing Hose - Side Entr.
Dimensioning of the water entries is illustrated on the Dimensions and Floor Mounting drawings of the
individual ACS 1000 type:

Parameter Value
pH 6–9
Conductivity < 500 µS / cm
Hardness 3 – 15 dH
Chloride (Cl) < 300 mg/l
Total dissolved solids (TDS) Recommended: < 300 mg/l
Up to 1000 mg/l possible, provided limits for
hardness and chloride are not exceeded
Suspended solids < 10 mg/l
Remark:
Even with 0 %/K derating for certain ACS1000 types the maximum raw water temperature needs still to
be specified when dimensioning the drive, because increased raw water temperature has influence on
the selection of certain power components.
5 Condensation
Condensation takes place when a surface is colder than dew point of the surrounding air. The amount of
water that condensates, dependents on the volume of air being in contact with the cold surface. The
ACS1000 has to be divided into three parts when looking at condensation.
• The outer surface of the cabinet
• Raw-water piping outside of the ACS1000
• The raw-water piping and air to water heat exchanger within the cooling compartment
• The pure-water circuit within the power compartments.
There is a risk of condensation in water-cooled drives when the cooling water temperature is below the
ambient temperature.
Within the ACS1000 problem is limited, due to the limitedhas been handled depending on the water
circuits.

Comments to Figure 5-1:
• It is assumed that the temperature difference between the external raw water and the
internal air is below 2 K in hot standby mode.
• The temperature difference between the internal and the external water is neglected in
hot standby mode.
