How to draw a graph from table data using EES (by Jung)

The EES (Engineering Equation Solver) software is available on computer labs.

You can find the EES icon on the

main computer screen.

Double-clicking the left mouse

button on the EES icon will start
the program.

A few seconds later, you can see

the EES Window.

Save it in a directory.

In the Window, you can see the

“menu bar” and “toolbar”.
It is convenient for new users to
use the menu bar.
We are going to generate the next
“Lookup Table”.

Click on the menu bar:

“Tables”  “New Lookup Table”
 change the number of rows to
To change the title and unit, place
the cursor on the Column1 
right click  select properties 
change the title and unit.

Put the flow rate data and head

loss data into the table directly.

Save it.

So, you finished creating your

table data.

To draw a graph using the table

On the menu bar, click “Plots” 
“New Plot Window”  “X-Y

You can see the next window pop-

You are going to pick something

in the next window.
(You don’t need to change
Min/Max values, which are
automatically set.)
Then, click “OK” button. So, you
are going to get the next.

(You can see the tool bar is visible

now, so you can change the x-
and y- titles & units.)

(If you place the cursor on a space

below the tool bar, and click the
right mouse button, you can make
the tool bar on and off.)

Now, it is time for curve fitting.

On the menu bar, select “Plots” 
“Curve Fit”.

Select “Power” curve and click the

“Fit” button.
Click “Plot” button.

Finally, in this development mode,

you can make the graph better by
changing the x-/y- titles (Font
size, position, …), symbol size
and shape, legend etc.

You can overlay graphs, for

example using theoretically
calculated data and measured data,
which enable you to compare
those more easily.

To copy & paste the graph into

your report,
On the menu bar, click “Edit”
”Copy Plot”

Then, on your report, “Ctrl+V”.
