“Equality is the essence of democracy”

According to the ‘PublicSpeakinginDemocracy.com’, Democracy is considered to be one

of the forms of political government, where the role of people is crucial indeed. The majority
becomes the ruling power that supports individual freedom and equality before the law. It will be
very difficult to improve the situation and take into consideration the demands and requirements
of ordinary people. How does democracy help us to know everyone’s rights? In a democracy,
everyone should have equal rights, because equality is the essence of democracy.

Equality means freedom from discrimination. Every man, woman, youth and child has
the human right to have freedom from discrimination based on career, gender or any other
status and to other fundamental human rights. According to pd.humanrights.org, these human
rights are explicitly set out in the Universal Declaration of human Rights, the International
covenants, the convention on the rights of the child and other widely adhere to international
human rights treaties and declarations. What powerful tools that must be put to use in efforts to
eliminate all forms of discrimination? One possible solution is to provide equal and adequate
opportunity for all individuals without any discrimination. Providing equal opportunity gives an
individual a fair chance to achieve his full potential. It should be done in a manner that
encourages and values diversity. It also aims at correcting past imbalances and ensures that
dealings with different people are conducted in a constructive way which does not lead to
unjustified discrimination. According to ‘huffpost.com’, to overcome discrimination, there are 3
ways first is to embrace your beauty and strength, Second is to take good care of yourself and
learn to cope, Third is to stand up for yourself.

Is it possible to achieve equality and democracy at the same time? I don’t think we can
achieve equality and democracy and according to researchgate.net, we can interpret equality of
conditions as the absence of big differences of economic, social and cultural character among
the members of the society. We see that where social inequalities and divisions are very deeps,
democracy is impossible or improbable. But democracy is hard to achieve and maintain. At the
same time, equality is a democratic goal. Freedom, Equality, Respect for others, Diversity,
Participation in public affairs are all values and goals that every genuine democracy should
pursue
