National and International hotel brands are settling into
India. There is hardly a global hote | chain which either
does not have a presence in India or is not eager to get an
entry into the burgeoning tourist market of India

business houses getting into the hospitality segment ona regular basis. There is
a huge trained manpower shortage in the Hotel industry. The industry figures reflect
that thousands of culinary professionals would be required each year.The Institute of
Culinary Arts being set upunder School of Tourism & Hospitality Services Management
IGNOU would train ready- to- employ culinary professionals for all segments of the
Hotel and Restaurant industry. The Institute would also train culinary professionals
for Airline catering, Cruise line catering, Event management catering and Institutional
catering
ICA is shortly launching residential courses for the culinary
industry of the country and the world. The courses on the
launch platform are
I.Three -years Degree Course in Culinary Arts
2.One -year Diploma Course in Food Production and Patisserie
3.One -year Diploma Course in Food Processing
The Institute which would create skills based training of the
highest order in the sphere of Culinary Arts and those of
allied subjects. Gastronomical studies would be dovetailed
with the contents of the Three Year Degree Course and the
One Year Diploma course in Culinary Arts.The schedule of activities at the Institute of
Culinary Arts at IGNOU includes actualization of Culinary Research through
establishment of Culinary Research Centres throughout the country The Institute of
Culinary Arts would also launch refresher courses which would focus on training the
industry professionals towards a higher degree of professionalism, culinary skills and
culinary management
Short term courses in Patisserie & Boulangeric, and those
with career links would be launched by the Institute in a
phased manner. Support to family life as well as support to
services in the Government sector would be provided by the
Institute through especially created certificate courses
