This week in Parshas Lech Lecha, we begin
with Hashem’s command for Avrohom to leave
his birthplace and travel to Canaan.
The Chofetz Chaim zt”l compares Avrohom’s
laughed and said: “I am only traveling through
town, my furniture is back home.” The Chofetz
Chaim smiled and said: “I, too, am only traveling
through this world, with my destination being

departure and arrival with that of Terach, who
left Ur Kasdim to go to Canaan, but only arrived
in Charan. He explains that Avrohom left on a
mission, with a determination to
follow Hashem’s command and
a goal in mind. Terach, however,
did not have the same motivation
and determination, therefore he

Chofetz Chaim would use this vort
to teach people an important lesson-
not to stop in the middle of a project
or goal, rather to follow it through
until it's completion.
Our lives are really a journey.
Some travel without any destination, just going
through the motions of life. Others, travel with
a destination, working towards specific goals
and aspirations. There is so much to accomplish
in life, such lofty destinations, if we only realize
what they are.
The Chofetz Chaim knew where he was
going. The story is told of a traveler who was
visiting the Chofetz Chaim’s home, and was
shocked by the meager surroundings and lack
of furniture. When he pointed this out to the
Chofetz Chaim, the great Tzadik responded with
a question: “Where is your furniture?” The man

Life is too short to not know where we are
going. Some people can just hop
on a plane and travel to a different
country, but they accomplish little
without planning. Others plan their
trip carefully, enabling themselves to
make the best use of every moment.

as Chazal teach in Pirkei Avos – “Da
l’on atah holech” – know where you

This Shabbos is the yahrtzeit GREAT AGAIN
of Rochel Imeinu, our dear Mama
Rochel. We are taught that she was buried
“derech Bais Lechem” – on the road between
cities – so that when her children pass by on
their way to Galus, they can daven at her grave,
and she can cry for them. Perhaps we can add
that Rochel was buried “on the derech” to set a
life path for us to follow, and cry for those who
travel aimlessly through life.
May we be zoche to know where we are going.
May our Mama Rochel’s prayers be answered,
and may Hashem bring an end to the Galus,
with the coming of Moshiach speedily in our
FJJ

the comments under the YouTube video of
the episode shows how many Americans are
angry, and their hateful messages are scary.
We should always go out of the way to avoid
any possible increase of anti-semitism. (See

Chemed on page 339 even regarding the
times of Nazi Germany, and we can learn a
Kal Vachomer in this country of kindness,
where most Americans don’t hate us and it’s
important that it stays this way).

The outspoken opposition to Zionism of
the Gedolei Yisroel who protested or instruct-
ed others to do so publicly – in both Eretz
Yisroel and chutz laaretz; in front of both Jews
and non-Jews – is not political, and is neither
relevant to nor supports nor impacts in any
form or manner upon Israel’s fights with the
Arabs. The protests are against Israel’s reli-
gious claims – claims that they make against
Judaism, about the Torah, about our religion,
and actions that they take against it; and have
nothing to do with political, military, or ter-
ritorial claims.
The protests are against the giyus; digging
up kevarim for construction sites; nituchei
meisim; mixed swimming pools; and, perhaps
most of all, their claim that the Jewish people
are a “nation like all nations,’ delineated by a

Score another thumbs up for Yeshiva Darchei Torah. They
make a big deal about hascholas gemara for all their 5th grad-
ers (eight classes!) – seuda etc. What a zchus it was to be
present with Tuvi at this auspicious juncture in his life. But it
was also a sobering reminder of that ‘dirty little secret’ – how
many yeshiva boys grow up without the ability to really learn
gemara the way they should. Far more than you think. They
silently struggle with basic teitch, the flow of the sugya, and
fundamental gemara reasoning and logic. Today, many boys
still continue to pretend, ignoring the holes in their learn-
ing wardrobe, but the situation is far better than it was. The
Rabbeim are younger, more in tune, and focused on filling
the gaps.
The future looks brighter.
