Dead Sea- has attracted visitors from
around the Mediterranean basin for thousands
of years. It was one of the world's first health
resorts (for Herod the Great), and it has been
the supplier of a wide variety of products, from
asphalt
for Egyptian mummification to potash for fertilis
ers. People also use the salt and the minerals
from the Dead Sea to create cosmetics and
herbal sachets.

1980–1988 Iran–Iraq War, in which
each side attacked the other's oil
tankers. It is the namesake of the
1991 Gulf War, the landbfollowed Iraq's
invasion of Kuwait.

Asia. Together with the Tigris, it is one of
the two defining rivers of Mesopotamia (the
"Land between the Rivers"). Originating
in eastern Turkey, the Euphrates flows
through Syria and Iraq to join the Tigris in
the Shatt al-Arab, which empties in
thetPersian Gulf.
