Home vs Standard Recipe Lab Write-Up

Name _______________________

Objective: Students will be able to evaluate a cooked/baked product using food science tests in
order to compare outcomes of standard vs home recipes.

Individually, you will complete a lab write up, to conclude the home vs
standard recipe unit. This paper must include the following:
● One page paper
● Typed
● Single Spaced
● Times new roman, 12pt font
● Correct spelling and grammar
● 4 sections (see below)

1. Hypothesis
- Your hypothesis need to be written in an “If, Then, Because” statement
- E.g. If we do this…. Then this will happen… because of this…
- This is the same hypothesis you wrote as a group during the home recipe muffin
evaluation. Be specific! Make changes to your hypothesis if needed.
2. Data
- Your data section needs to be one paragraph. Using complete sentences:
- Describe your results from the evaluation tests on the home recipe
muffins and the standard recipe muffins (ink print, standing height, and
total weight)
- Only describe the data!
3. Results
- Your results sections needs to be one paragraph. Using complete sentences:
- Analyze the data you described in the previous section
- Why did you see changes or no changes?
- Evaluate the home recipe muffins and the standard recipe muffins
- Compare and Contrast the results
4. Conclusion
- Your conclusion needs to include all of the following points into one paragraph:
- Restate your hypothesis (do not re-write your hypothesis from above)
- Was your hypothesis correct? If not, explain why: e.g. What happened
instead? How was that different than what you hypothesized? Why do
you think the results were different?
- What were some potential errors in your experiment? E.g. What were
some things that your group may have done incorrectly to lead to results
that were different than hypothesized? What would you do differently if
you were to do this experiment again to yield different results? There
were no errors is NOT an acceptable answer. No one is perfect!
