Journey Portfolio

Throughout the year, we will be reading a series of short stories, poems and novels that have
central characters who experience some type of journey- physical, emotional, psychological.
Your job is to create a series of products that reflect the journey of these characters while relating
it to your personal life through reflection.

TASK: In your Journey Portfolio, you must include ONE product for each of these texts:
 “Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keyes
 The Giver by Lois Lowry
 A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks
 The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne

For each of these major texts, you must choose from one of these products. You may not use the
same product for more than one text.

PRODUCT DETAILS:
A1- Choose 5 pieces of music from different artists. Submit the title, artist and lyrics for each song
in a 5- page Word document (1 song per page) via e-mail with the subject: (Last Name) A1 Product
A2- Create a 3-D model, object or art piece using any type of medium. Submit the 3-D model,
object or art piece.
A3- Design a PowerPoint or Prezi. Submit the PowerPoint or Prezi via e-mail with the subject:
(Last Name) A3 Product
B1- Write a 2 page, double-spaced essay with at least 4 pictures/illustrations. Submit the essay
via e-mail with the subject: (Last Name) B1 Product. (DOES NOT NEED A REFLECTION)
B2- Create a magazine spread with a written article comparing the main character to a well-
known person. Include at least 5 pictures/graphics. Should be done on small poster paper.
B3- Create a 15 question interview. Must be typed with answers directly following each question.
Answers should be italicized. Submit the interview via e-mail with subject: (Last Name) B3
Product.
C1- Draw a 10 framed comic strip on printer paper or small poster paper. Must have color in
each frame. Must include word bubbles and captions for each frame.
C2- Create a pictorial timeline with ten milestones from the text. Must include pictures for each
event. Should be done on small poster paper.
C3- Create a one-pager on one page of 8.5 x 11 sized printer paper. It must have color and
pictures (hand drawn, graphics, images, etc.). Must include 5 major events that took place in the
text (with pictures), textual evidence, impactful words and connections to the real world.

REFLECTION:
Each product must have a 1-page reflection (with the exception of B1)
(1)- EXPLAINING YOUR PRODUCT,
(2)- SHOWING CONNECTIONS TO THE MAIN CHARACTER’S JOURNEY AND
(3)- CONNECTING THE CHARACTER’S JOURNEY TO YOUR OWN LIFE.

The 1-page reflection should be double-spaced, 12 pt. Times New Roman font. It should be
printed and given as a hard-copy on the day the product is due.

CULMINATING PAPER:
On a given date, towards the end of the year, a 3-5-page culminating paper will be due. This
paper must include a synthesis of all the texts, focusing on the common theme of the character’s
journeys. The paper must:
(1)- HIGHLIGHT EACH TEXT, MAIN CHARACTER AND JOURNEY,
(2)- COMPARE AND CONTRAST THE JOURNEYS OF EACH CHARACTER
(3)- EXPLAIN HOW THE CHARACTERS CHANGED DUE TO THEIR JOURNEYS

The 3-5-page culminating paper should be double-spaced, 12 pt. Times New Roman font. It can
be printed or e-mailed with the subject: (Last Name) Culminating Paper.

**Each PRODUCT and REFLECTION will count as a project grade (TWICE).


**The CULMINATING PAPER will count as a project grade (TWICE).
