Arizona is called Arid Zona by some people. Arizona is considered as a neighbor of the east side and is
termed sunburn state. Is is so hot in Arizona that it is usually said that you can boil an egg on your leg.

The heat in Arizona is dry and it is not hot all through the year, it appears that it is hot in Arizona until
October and during the Christmas it is so cool that frost forms. The Laguna Mountains in California tend to
block the cool marine air that flows from the Pacific Ocean. The flow of the air is inhibited to move
eastwards to Yuma. These Mountains were known to keep the heat in them. The weather pattern in the
summer causes places like Utah, Nevada and Arizona to have high pressures. This high air pressures
make the air in the North Arizona move at latitudes, in height. Due to this reason, a place called Yuma in
Arizona, which is situated at a higher altitude, experiences more heat and gets almost baked .Adopted from

Once upon a time, at the edge of the sea, there was a rock, older than Time itself. Only The
Unicorn used to go there, to watch the sea at sunset and soothe its sadness with the song of the sea. It
always arrived lonely, as each night time felt, it left even lonelier and sadder. Only the moonlight reflecting
from its mythical horn lightened the darkness and its sadness.
One day, at twilight, the sea gathered all of its waves at the foot of the rock. The watching Unicorn was
puzzled, it had never seen so much foam in one place before and then, out of the sparkling foam, “She was
born!”
With a body of foam and a soul made of light, ‘She climbed the rock with steps of dreams and
shadows. The Unicorn looked deep into her sea-like eyes and found true happiness. “She was its beloved!”
Since then, that ancient rock had been pummeled and crushed by the pounding waves of Time,
and spread afar, throughout the seas of the world.
We call that crushed ancient rock ‘sand’ and imagine that it knows only of the footprints trodden
into it, through soon forgetting them, as the sea wipes away the bare-foot traces, but, in every grain of sand
a memory remains, of the golden summer when The Unicorn found its true love! Adopted from: http://short-
stories.org.uk/talespinners/talespinners.htm (January 29, 2013)

anymore. As it stood, very depressed, on the seashore, thinking about the uselessness of its life, it heard a
soft, clear voice beside it.
“Good morning, who are you?” The voice asked.
“I’m a butterfly, but who are you? A speaking stone? I don’t believe it!”
The voice replied. “I’m not a stone. I’m a shell, an oyster! I’m a living being just like you are”.
“Would you like to be my friend?” The butterfly asked. “I have no friends and I’m very unhappy
because nobody loves me. I want to die in the sea”.
“I don’t want you to die,” said the shell. I’m just a lonely and sad as you and I too have never known
what it is like to be loves. However, now that you are here, neither of us is alone. Stay with me, be my
winged prince and tell me all about the things that you have seen in the world; thins that the eyes of a
daughter-of-the sea will never see”.
The butterfly stayed at the shell’s side and they grew to love each other, more than anyone could
ever imagine. The butterfly had collected all the colors in the world in its wings and it gave them, as a
bouquet, to its sweetheart, while the shell gave, as its gift from the sea, all the mysterious whispers of the
deep.
Their joy was short-lived, as butterfly have a short lifespan than shells and when the butterfly died,
the shell buried it in the sand. Then it cried and cried so much that it died of its sadness and was dissolved
by its tears.
Next morning, on a small mound of sand, marked with a coral cross, appeared the very first pearl,
made from the tears of the shell, the colors from the butterfly’s wings and their love.

Unemployment among young people is increasing constantly. Some people blame industrial
sectors for this. The reason is that industries try to reduce the number of employees who are replaced by
computers or people able to manipulate these computers.
People think the problem is that companies mainly look for well-qualified people with a lot of
experience because they expect to make serious business and don’t give a chance to university students to
prove themselves.
On the other hand, people argue that the unemployment increase is caused by young people
themselves, not the industrial sectors. In the work area young people tend to specialize too much in one
limited area and haven’t got any other knowledge, or experience. Furthermore, students should take an
orientation that will allow them to get several kinds of jobs and mainly studies in correction with technology,
public relations, commence and social activities.
Another fact is that students are quickly self-satisfied. If they can’t get a job in their specialization,
they don’t go on looking for another job and choose the easier way out “unemployment”.
In conclusion, we cannot fully blame the industrial sectors as the only cause of unemployment. We
should consider the inside reasons why young people become unemployment. However, providing a lot of
numbers of work fields is a must.

The following text is for questions 33 to 36.

How do Corals Reproduce?

On the Great Barrier Reef, many coral species spawn once a year in the annual mass spawning
that takes place in spring or early summer. In this event, many corals release eggs and sperm into the
water on a few rights each year, linked to the phases of the moon. The most common timing is 3-5 days
after the full-moon in late spring or early summer (November or December).

The eggs are fertilized in the water to produce embryos or larvae. A smaller number or coral
species produce larvae at other times of the year. Larvae are about 1-2 mm long and can swim short
distances, but are usually moved by water currents.

Coral larvae are carried in the water from a few hours up to several weeks before they are mature
enough to settle onto the reef and start a new coral colony in that time, some species of corals may settle
within meters of the present orals, but most species will travel long distances, from hundreds of meters to
tens of kilometers.

When they are ready to settle, coral larvae move down through the water column until they touch
the reef surface. They are susceptible at this stage to being eaten by one of the many hungry reef
organisms, including other corals! If they find another sea creature, they will attach to the reef surface and
begin to lay down the base of their skeleton. At this time, they are still about 1-2 mm across and will have
just one polyp. This singe polyp will continue to divide throughout the life of the coral to produce a colony-all
derived from the single setting larva.

A. They attach to sea plant.
B. They swim here and there.
C. They emerge to the water surface.
D. They are carried in the water for a long distance.
E. They stay and attach to their parent coral.
35. What is the main idea of paragraph two?
A. The length of larvae.
B. The eggs’s fertilization to produce embryos or larvae.
C. A smaller number of coral species.
D. The larva’s ability to swim for a long distance.
E. The larvae are moved by current water.
36. Why is a dangerous stage for coral larvae when they are about to settle at the reef surface?

B. It is very difficult for coral larvae to reach the reef surface.
C. They may not find an empty space on the reef to settle.
D. They may die on their way to move down to find a reef surface.
E. Hungry reef organisms may eat them.

The following text is for questions 39 to 42.

Creatine is a nitrogenous organic acid that occurs naturally in all vertebrates. Creatine helps to
supply energy to muscle and nerve cells. Here we study some advantages and disadvantages of creatine
and its uses.
One of the advantages of creatine is that a creatine diet improves performance in the gym and on
the field. Performance of sprinters, football player and basketball players, for example, have shown marked
improvement with the use of creatine supplements.
Creatine also helps in muscle re-growth, which means one can gain up to 4 pounds in less than a
week, with a creatine diet. Bodybuilders benefit hugely from a creatine diet. Creatine has shown to enhance
maximal strength and accelerate lean muscle mass.
Creatine, most importantly, is not an artificial compound created by chemists in the laboratory; it
already exists in the human body, and acts as a source of energy for our pursuits.
Last, but not the least, use of creatine is claimed to be free of any side effects among many users.
In fact, researchers have now shown that use of creatine has positive effects on the health of women, the
elderly and people with certain medical conditions.
On the other hand, through we read about so many advantages of creatine supplements, it does
have some disadvantages too.
Though creatine supplement marketers claim creatine doesn’t have any side effects and I fact
benefits the body if is used over a period of time, some of the reports of users suggest their suffering from
increased aggressiveness, anxiety, acne, male breast formation (Gynecomastia), a reduction in penis size,
hair loss (men) and body hair growth (woman). Of these, increased aggressiveness, acne and hair loss are
the most frequently reported. Gastrointestinal complications have also been commonly reported among
users of creatine supplements. Moreover scientific studies have proven that increase in body mass from
creatine use can be attributed to water retention by muscle.
Use of creatine in sports, as a performance enhancer is controversial. Through it still remain one of
the most popular supplements used by sports enthusiasts and professional athletes, some people have
reacted negatively to the use of creatine to enhance performance and seek to ban the use of it by
individuals involved in competitive sports.
In addition, it has been proven that a highly acidic environment, like the stomach, can cause pure
creatine to convert into creatinine, which nullifies all beneficial effects of creatinine. To minimize this,
creatine supplement manufacturers add alkaline phosphates to their supplements. The effect of such
compounds on the body has not been analyzed.
Considering the facts mentioned, it is wise to use creatine when we really need it, but just a little
amount. Adopted from: http//www.creatine-monohydrate.org/creatine advantages-disadvantages.htm
(March 14, 2012).

39. What is the text about?

A. How creatine works?
B. The importance of creatine.
C. The pros and cons of creatine.
D. General description of creatine.
E. Why we should not use creatine.

10 | P a g e
40. What are paragraph four and seven about?
A. Both of them discuss the function of creatine.
B. Paragraph 4 discusses the advantage of creatine; paragraph 7 discusses the disadvantage of
creatine.
C. Both of them discuss the advantages of creatine.
D. Both of them discuss the disadvantages of creatin.
E. Paragraph 7 supports the explanation of paragraph 4.

41. “Moreover, scientific studies have proven that increase in body mass from creatine use can be
attributed to water retention by muscle”. (‘Paragraph 7).
The word “retention’ means…..
A. The action of keeping something.
B. The action of strengthening something.
C. The action of reducing something.
D. The action of helping something.
E. The action of fighting against something.

42. Which of the following is NOT the advantage of creatine?

A. A creatine diet improves performance in the gym and on the field.
B. It reduces anxiety.
C. Use of creatine is claimed to be free of any side effects.
D. It acts as s source of energy for our pursuits.
E. Creatine helps in muscle re-growth.

subject and poor marks only make him feel worse. He sleeps badly, so is irritable and listless in the
morning.
In turn, all this means that he cannot digest his food and he gets a headache. His mental condition
is communicated to the body, which reacts with feelings of illness.

There was a blind girl who hated just because she’s. She (48) ….. everyone except her loving
fiancé. He was always there for her loving fiancé. He was always there for her. The blind girl said that if she
could only see the world, she would many her fiancé.
One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to the blind girl and then she could see everything,
including her fiancé.
Her fiancé asked her, “Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?” The girl was shocked
when she saw that her fiancé was blind too and refused to marry him.
Her fiancé (49)…… in tears and later wrote a letter to girl saying. “Just take care of my eyes, dear”.
This is how a human brain changes when the status has changed. Only few remember what life
was before and who’s always been there even in the most painful situations.
Never take someone for granted. Hold every person close to your heart (50)…. You might wake up
one day and realize that you have lost a diamond while you were too busy collecting stones. Remember
